I don’t know how true that is. Medicare and medicaid combined are the biggest entitlements payouts we have right now, but social security is bigger than either one independently. Non-medicaid welfare benefits are roughly equivalent to what we pay in social security alone, which is admittedly a lot but ultimately not bigger than heathcare, certainly.

Combining medicaid and non-medicaid benefits (i.e excluding medicare and social security) would be roughly half of our total entitlements spending, which is DEFINITELY more than we spend on the military and the police independently. Ultimately it’s what we take as “healthcare” in what’s paid out by insurance and what’s dealt with by the government so that adds a bit of nuance that’s hard to get at.

That being said, it is a metric shit ton of money. No arguing that.
