How are your salaries and taxes, in terms of women being able to stay at home?

I heard from a lady from Sweden, or one of those high-welfare countries that because taxes are so high, if they lived there it would be impossible to live on one salary. On paper, it looked nice with "free" healthcare, childcare, and lots of social programs, but it takes a lot of money to pay for all that, so the result was that most couldn't be a stay at home mom because after taxes there usually wasn't enough of dad's salary left to live on.
