I wouldn't say that they did nothing wrong. They certainly fucked up a lot and tortured and killed a lot of people unnecessarily.

But perhaps they are given a worse rap than they deserve. The US did free the Philippines from Spain, despite the US also massacring a lot of Philipinos with the initial intention of controlling the islands.
