You realize there's a difference between what Bernie's supporters believe he represents, and what Bernie actually represents?
The only reason people follow socialist/marxist/communist leaders, is because they're ignorant of the history.
Most people want the same outcome, we only differ on how to go about achieving it.
Those who follow socialist/marxist/communist leaders are just sheep being led with the promise of greener pasture. But that pasture is just an illusion. Sometimes they're able to realize they've been deceived before they're slaughtered. Usually they die still believing the lies.
America was founded by people that knew for a fact that life is what you make it. That there's no such thing as a greener pasture to be found elsewhere, and even if there was, unless you actively put in the work to keep it that way, it will inevitably become just as barren as the place you left, maybe even worse.
This is the wisdom that's being lost more and more each decade.
I said what he says, and what he'll actually do, are two different things.
It is all about how his policies are perceived by voters, same as any politician. It's just that we're able to see Bernie's "sunshine and rainbows" for what it really is, lies that lead to death, and destruction. His base is ignorant of history, so they genuinely believe he's a good choice.

He was explaining why people like him, so yeah, in that context, by definition the only thing that matters is how they perceive him
Reading is hard, but keep trying. You’ll get there, sport
That's not quite what I said.
