Star Trek is possibly the biggest example. I like science fiction. But it's more than just that - it's also about the great sum of storytelling and the actors in various movies and series. For today's movies it's quite obvious, but back then it was more subtle.

In Stargate for example you had several Chinese related appearances, all of which were weirdly positive. The only government that had issues with keeping the Stargate secret was the Chinese one - they were oh-so obliged to be transparent - which is a ridiculous contrast to the truth. Then there was that Chinese goa'uld lord who was the most helpful to the good guys. There were other parts where they were portrayed positively.

What was also quite prevalent was the generally positive depiction of governments and the negative depiction of corporations & business. And the Noble Savage trope among many others - including injecting feminism in form of weirdly strong and competent women into a lot of positions.

All of that had the purpose of propagating their leftist ideologies in a more or less subtle way. Today I recognize it easily, back then I didn't think about it.

I hear you. A couple of years back, they had a transgender woman named Catherine McGregor doing stints I the commentary box during the biggest home cricket matches of the year. I mean, Catherine’s got a brain, clearly. But it was so manufactured - I was like, ‘why the fuck am I constantly hearing from a transgender army officer during the Boxing Day Test? What’s the fg score again?’
