As a Leftard I'd ask: What if the jogger just showed the knife but he had no intention of using it? The cops must be absolutely certain that he was in fact going to use the knife against the police officers before they can defend themselves. And the only way to prove that is if the knife is already in their guts. Then, they can shoot. But they can only shoot his foot, no need to kill if he's already disarmed and writhing in pain.
