The other thing that has changed so much over the years is that we put all the thousands of cows in the barns and hook e up to machines instead of letting them graze and keep growth down. Back in the day you could let cattle clearcut the forest for you and it just took more labor to round em up.... Now you have created more jobs, healthier environment, and less forest fires. Maybe allow people to have small family farms again.
