So what happens if Nancy loses her re-election in November? She won't be able to blackmail anyone if that happens. When would she have to step down as speaker?

I get the feeling she is not going to lose. Her electorate are masochists.

Yeah, I know. I was just curious as to what happens if she did happen to lose. I bet she'd be the one that refused to leave office and had to be forcibly removed. Which would be hilarious since that is what she was claiming Trump would do if he lost.

If Nancy lost, then I'd believe change is coming for the Dem party. Unfortunately not going to happen.

You can't be Speaker if you're not in Congress, if she loses, they elect someone else.

Don't hold your breath on that. She's 'running" against a nobody dude and a YouTuber. She's essentially running unopposed.

She could also retain her seat, but lose Speaker, if the Dems decide she's not working. She has to win her Seat, and then win a ballot within her party in Congress to retain Speaker. Which will probably happen.

But if the house flips red, she could still lose Speaker right?

If the house flips red, yes. Then she'd most likely be elected for minority whip or minority leader. Pelosi was minority leader when the GOP controlled the house.

She's party leadership. She's probably getting Speaker again, as I have my doubts the GOP can take the house back - but if they do - guaranteed she'd be minority leader again. Her and Hoyer and Clyburn run the DNC in the House.

Ugh, you'd think that at eighty years old, she'd be looking to retire and get out of politics and enjoy the little bit of time she probably has left.

You are not technically required to be a member of congress to be Speaker, only you must be voted in by those who are. This situation has never happened before though.

Jan 1... ish They get a full month and a half to go bat shit insane on people post election.

And Nancy would most definitely go batshit insane if she lost speaker. Though I be she'd retire when she had to step down as speaker and not just go back to her seat in the House.

Just to clarify - she wouldn't "go back to her seat" - she's still currently a Congresswoman, AND is Speaker of the House. She does both. (granted, she does fuck all for CA)

And, she'd be elected minority leader, she held that position for decades when the GOP controlled the house. It's still ALL the power.
