the guy just used what he had to make a wick that will keep burning. yes glass breaks but harder to break in grass and all you need is constant flame in one spot..

so this is not that bad of idea, like a big candle you can light and leave and slow fire starts some time after so you can get out.

he was successful in 7 fires!
