More important that property value (imo).... cramming in a bunch of new people with no ties at all to the community, and nothing significant to contribute either.... just simply ruins everything that makes a community what it is.
This is incredibly dumb. Last time I checked, paying rent pays 0% interest. Comparing building equity in a house to alternatively owning mutual funds or stocks is stupid. One does not use money they would have paid on a mortgage to invest in the stock market. They pay rent with it.
I never understood why my generation is fascinated with living in tiny little boxes in dense cities paying $5000/mo in rent, but then bitch and moan about not being able to afford a home. Like, are you stupid? Mortgages actually go towards something you own. I'm currently renting an apartment but my goal is to get out as fast as possible so I don't sink my savings into it.
