I was never big into politics. In every single election since 1996 when I was first able to vote, I never voted for a single Democrat or Republican. I would always vote someone 3rd party because to me neither of the people running seemed like a good choice. In the last election I wasn't a big Trump fan, but I thought Hillary was such a horrible choice that I voted for Trump in the hopes that would stop her from getting elected. Trump isn't perfect, but he is far better than Joe Biden and I will be voting for him again come November.
Amen! I followed politics for a while now, but for so many years it has been a pathetic mess and I have been apathetic. I initially fell for Russiagate during the beginning of trump's first term. Luckily, a close friend of mine talked me off that ledge and exposed a counter narrative to MSM.. and with a little bit of critical thinking, I came to the truth. Still there are Trump admin policy decisions that I do not agree with, and a few advisors that I am not fans of. But from what I see, Trump's as good as it gets for an American president.
Late 30s also. Didn't follow politics much until Obama got in office. I was just starting a family and my first child was born in 2008. I watched everything get less affordable and more money come out of my paychecks. I couldn't afford insurance. Then I had to pay to not have it, sinking me even further. I kept losing jobs because places were laying off half the company and I was always at the bottom of the totem pole. I woke up and started paying attention because the Obama presidency was destroying me financially. Trump was a godsend!
I'm 32 and seem to be similar to you-- i didn't care much about politics. If anyone asked me for my opinions, my opinions tended to be classic liberal. I was also pro-choice. I also was non-religious and didn't care for patriotism. In fact, i kinda viewed patriotic people wearing American Flag apparel as being hillbillies.
My girlfriend is 32 and Hmong, originated from CA and grew up in St. Paul Minnesota. She was apolitical and not patriotic.
Enter 2016. I never liked Trump before he ran for president-- i found him annoying on The Apprentice. But watching for years as Democrats and News Media just threw shit at him constantly made me realize that if they hated him, i should like him (because the left is wrong about literally everything virtually always). I decided to listen to his rally speeches and nothing he said seemed to line up with what News Media was saying about him. My girlfriend also noticed this. Just the non-stop Trump Derangement Syndrome everywhere you looked. If anybody was in front of a camera from any kind of studio-- they hated Trump and were not shy or kind about it.
Over these past couple years, seeing so much anti-american, racism talk, inequality talk, and just divisive rhetoric that divides us, both my GF and I grew entirely sick of it and it was made obvious that Liberals/Democrats/Leftists were the evil ones. Now we're both much more patriotic, and my gf follows Candace Owens, Conservatives for Women, Women for Trump, Charlie Kirk and are more determined ever to vote (for the first time) for Trump.
