Well it's following the logic of "inaction is still action" which basically translates into "no gender is still a gender", and as we already have gender neutral pronouns, it's more formalizing the edge case as the English language already supports it. So there's not really a change beyond acknowledging the edge case as everyone still largely fits into the male or female buckets.
That said, all the pronouns that haven't been around for more than a decade is part of the dumbfuckery I'm referring to.
