They could lay off of the conjecture a bit as well. The facts they usually have are substantive enough to fill an article to an appropriate length, but it consistently comes off as sounding like a blog more than anything.
Sundance should be a template to follow as far as punditry/fact mixing goes. Im sure the conjecture gets GWP the clicks they need to survive, but it really makes it tough to use them as a source without being written off.
At best, when I argue with people, I have to pull the sources they use out and send them separately because of how much they taint it with the hot-take-speak.

Either give grants to other disease control startups so that there's competition or make the CDC a government org.
