I worked for a newspaper for more than 30 years. As print started fading out, it went to online subscriptions and social media. The older folks were slowly weeded out and let go. No raises for well over 12 years. The online folks that quickly filled the newsroom were young, right out of college and probably paid more. They were progressive and liberal compared to the OGs. I imagine that is what is going on at publications nationwide. They are often not trained journalists. They are social media drivers.
