My family has been hit really hard by COVID in California. Worse yet, there's no end in sight. The governor and his insane toddler crayon color stages guidelines for opening is job killing and impossible to comply with. Our jobs and income, gone. Jobs that aren't coming back.
We we're in the middle of re-doing my grandfathers home before COVID hit. Talk about the worst luck. Down to the studs type of redo. You can imagine with taking money out the house and with the shutdown, it's been hard.
Notwithstanding the sob story, we've got a real HARD choice to make. The goal was to move in, finish and pay back/stabilize. Re-structure and move say 3-5 years down the line. Now, we're considering just expediting that and leaving now.
Even with the current climate, houses in our area are selling big time. And selling higher than market value. We have the ability to just barely finish off the home to sell at just about the 900-1Mil mark.
So the BIG question. WHERE? I'm looking for some advice from people living in the PST/MT timezones. With COVID well underway, a lot of areas are coming back stronger in terms of unemployment recovery, some aren't. There's a lot of speculation and things are up in the air, making a move with simply cash on hand and no guarantee of jobs and stability, a very scary thought. But we're bleeding here.
Key things: Jobs and lower taxes are top of the list, of course. From those of you on this side of the States, what's doing good, where is bad and to avoid?
My parents can't do brutal winters. So area also plays a role. A relatively nice four seasons and something at a reasonable elevation (so nothing insane like Colorado).
I know this isn't Trump related, but I've got really nowhere else to turn and times running out to decide within the next few months. Hope some of you can give me some insight based on where you're living. I consider you guys and all the other Trump loving patriots a second family and trust a lot of your opinions and ideas.
Thank you!
Southern Utah is probably closest to fitting your hit list
Looks like a lot of people are saying Utah as well, I will focus my attention there to start. Thanks.
Utah sounds nice.... but it’s actually more expensive than the average state.
IDAHO is lower than average cost of living.
Of course, you’re going to have to account for CoLiving and Wages
Idaho looks great, especially the north...but jobs of course seems to be the problem. Unless you commute to Spokane I guess, which I don't know how they're doing. But it's a beautiful area.
A lot have said Utah, but the elevation is kind of up there, and I do have my concerns over the LDS. Not sure if unfounded or not, but I hear discrimination does occur job wise.
Dont know if this fits your prefered climate, but South Dakota did zero countermeasures for Covid. So theres that.
Do you live there? What parts would you recommend to look at?
UTAH.
A few are recommending the same, that will be where I start looking. What part of the state do you generally find better?
I agree Utah as well. Winters can be strong but the snow is dry and doesn't usually hit till Christmas. We could use more patriots here too!
Thank you, seems like quite a few of you are saying Utah. What part would you suggest?
Outskirts of Salt Lake county and parts of Utah county are worth a look. Southern Utah also! Just my opinion. Depends on your job needs.
Salt Lake County looks nice, but how are things in terms of job discrimination would you say with the LDS? I don't know if that really is even an issue, but it's been thrown around a lot to me.
I guess the answer is it depends. I am not Mormon, although I have some Mormon friends and lots of Mormon clients. There probably is some discrimination felt in certain industries. It is a good idea to learn the culture a bit. Catholics and many different types of Christian churches have a presence here. Being a part of something probably helps. Lots of ex Mormon too so it really does just depend.
