This is only getting exposed because the classroom is being brought home. You wanna know why millennials are so fucked up? It’s because this level of indoctrination was happening in at least 40% of classrooms. Another 40% were just stupid and went along with the curriculum that was clearly left leaning. About 20% were actually good teachers that made sure students always had both sides of the stories.
I’m a teacher and a millennial who went through this crap and is trying to fix it. I was pissed that weak ass teachers refused to have classes in person, but this might actually turn out well. Destroy the education system and start from scratch. If public school teachers were judged by the standards of any private business, they would have the lowest job performance in any industry.
On the Sunny Slopes of Long Ago, history teachers were WW2 vets. I had one who lost an arm in the Huertgen Forest. A degree in history or English, these days, is something one can coast thru, while doubling in ED. We are not talking a leading edge STEM type mind. Academia has pulled off one of the great marketing scams of all time. "You can't be successful without a degree."
Good for you, if I had to do it over again I think I would have gone to become a plumber or welder. It's a crime how schools completely ignore or look down on trades.

On the first day they made her and all the other kids stand up and announce their support for BLM! And this is in a very conservative area of the South!

I have a degree in Psychology. I used it for a few years, worked in Crisis Intervention and corrections, but burn out is real. They don't teach that.
I would have been better off with a different degree, but since I'm homeschooling now it's not much of an issue. I keep looking at Cyber Security but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
My middle school electrical engineering teacher was a veteran of Guadalcanal.Giant ham forearms. Very mild mannered. Never talked about the horrors he had seen. I watched him pick up a kid by the neck (Darth Vader style) one day. The kid had it coming. That kid never created another problem in that class.
Don't just blame academia, Wall Street is responsible as well. For starters, they offshored the jobs, knowing it would screw over whole generations of young Americans. Then they sold those young Americans snake oil, a mortgage without a house, in the form of college diplomas.
"You can be anything you want to be!" is just another way of saying "we know we screwed you all, but we want you to think it's your responsibility every one of you is poorer than your parents."
I went through school in the 70's and 80's, and don't recall anything LIKE this bullshit. I had no idea what political affiliation any of my teachers were, it was NEVER discussed. This is new since then.
People are shocked when I say I was taught the Civil War wasn't just about slavery, in fact it was only a small reason if one can consider it that. I also remember my history teacher spoke of diversity using the candidates (Hillary and Obama) and he showed we had diversity on BOTH sides.
The only political issue I can recall was he was iffy of students blindly picking candidates solely on their party without learning who they where.
Not always. I went to school in the '80s and my history teachers were red-blooded Americans. One of my English teachers was an otherwise genteel Southern woman who told her students that if they acted up she would throw a brick in their face and watch their eyes fill with blood. My other English teachers just taught English. I have no idea what their political affiliation or beliefs were.
Good point. I’m a history/social studies teacher and the curriculum has been written through an SJW lens’s for quite a while. But in the past 10 years it has gotten way, way worse. I’m thankfully able to avoid teaching it that way, but it makes your blood boil to see how they want you to teach.
I’m not sure if math has been effected, however it has definitely gotten dumbed down a ton and they kind of push math out of the way now. I think a large part of it has to do with the fact that more students were failing at math than any other subject, by far. So instead of emphasizing it more, they are now just getting rid of any math that is deemed to be too hard.
Science has definitely been infiltrated by the left. Physics and chemistry are barely taught. Climate/environmental science is all the rage now. It’s the easiest AP course of all time so just about every student takes it. The problem is that if climate change is a serious issue, none of these kids will have the scientific background to be able to actually improve things. All they do in that class is brainwash kids into believing that the world is about to end and teach them how to have less of a carbon footprint. It’s a fucking joke.

WAY off topic, but my wife and I made major sacrifices over the summer (financial) and our 3 kids are now attending a nice, Private, Christian school.
It was really hard. Hard to find a place, hard to know what the "right" thing to do was, hard to get our budget in check... BUT
We're now reading about parents who signed their kids up for "virtual" "online" classrooms and how absolutely frustrated they are.
The same parents who SHAMED those of us who wanted to send our children back (in person) to school. The same parents who thrived on "fear porn" all Spring and Summer, are now bitching about how inconvenient "virtual" learning is.
We feel bad for those kids because they can't help that they have dumb parents, but I admit, those articles have put a smile on my face.

I've seen them first-hand in Austin in public, at the arcade, restaurants, parks and comic book / boardgame stores. Much of the idle chatter is covid-related or just negative things about society or negative heresay.
It made me think back to high school and college, and I've never seen anything back then like I'm seeing today. At least back then the negative chatter wasn't as deep and was about stuff that usually blew over eventually.

The panic is still there. Most teachers biggest fear is the opinions of parents. The most frustrated you will ever see a teacher is when a parent takes issue with the way that they are teaching.
Pride is a huge issue in this profession. Teachers that are full of themselves don’t realize that it is the parents that they are really working for. You don’t just get to do whatever you want. You use your expertise to consult parents on how believe is the best way to educate their child, but they are the ones that have the final say.
