The sports part of it removed, it’s simply effective self defense. There are five officers in my jiu jitsu school for that exact reason. We learn both self defense from attackers and sports jiu jitsu.
It's so ridiculous and really exposes how little training these cops have. Dude had him in a full Nelson, then had his hips outside while maintaining double unders and he still couldn't take the dude down.
It's so dangerous to put people with such minimal training and physical capability out on the streets.
Truly - and in all honesty it really wouldn't take that much effort to get them trained. A few hours a week would do wonders for them (and help with the fatties). Cops should be somewhat physically intimidating - at least in these trouble areas - and be able to back it up. Jiu Jitsu would be perfect for this - I rarely see a cop using even a simple arm bar on these twats.
Glad to have the wrestling insight too. Some sort of basic grappling skills for officers should be mandatory whether it’s wrestling, jiu jitsu, or some judo throws.

These gentleman obviously felt that the expected level of decorum they had established for their neighborhood was not being met. It is often a failure of residents to tolerate behavior that is obviously devoid of common decency or sense under whatever mentally constructed concept of tolerance they posses that erodes standards of behavior for all. When that occurs, motherfuckers get shot.
As a cop, if you get into greco-roman wrestling with a person you are trying to detain - it better be after his ass has been tasered or shot. I am not small nor weak, but I'll be damned if I am going to man-handle someone who might grab my weapon while wrestling...

They likely saved that man's life, it might not seem like it (they did beat the shit out of him) but if that turns into a lethal situation where the officer's gun or other potentially deadly objects are in play, who the hell knows what would've happen. This brings a tear to my eye, and gives me hope for the future. These are patriots if you ask me, they've certainly earned the title.
The department should identify all these people and present them with an official thanks, photo opportunity, ceremony and everything. Building community relations is a way to win victory.
I work with many races and have multiracial family members.... I've always said the black vs white narrative from OJ on is manufactured by the media. Good comes in all colors. Thank God these people stepped up.
