No, the weapon was CCP propaganda and it was effective. If the US wasn't divided against itself already (due again to previous CCP propaganda - same sex marriage/bathroom controvery/global warming/critical race theory/gender identity/...) we would have lead the world back to sanity.
I think the media and the Dems expected it to be a lot worse than it was. This is probably why we saw them try to pump the numbers with nursing home laws and defective kits. They were left holding the bag on a virus that may be about as fatal as the common flu.
On the surface it appears it did its job in bringing down the economy. However they really exposed themselves in the process. This may be part of a larger plan where China is sacrificing their “parters” to save itself. Or it may not be.
The bioweapon infects a sloppy worker and gets out to the community in Wuhan. The Chinese know how bad it could be so they react STRONGLY to suppress the virus, and the knowledge.
But the virus is SO deadly that it rapidly kills off its hosts. That makes for a weapon that burns itself out by killing its hosts.
Some viruses mutate and become LESS lethal - these strains are more likely to be spread as their host can live to spread it.

The simplest solution is often the best solution.
This virus was NOT discovered in bats. It has significant sequences from both bat coronaviruses and pangolins.
It is not found in nature.
After Trump was beating them so badly on trade and every other level, they had plenty of motive.
It was researched, and funded in the US before it went to china.
At Harvard, and it was transferred by a Chinese lab worker back to China... just to be perfectly CLEAR.
