Most (if not all) states do not allow you to point your firearm out of your window at people on the sidewalk unless you can demonstrate a clear and present immediate danger to your life.
He would be fine to sit behind his door with it aimed at the entrance and blow the shit out of anyone who came in, in a lot of states. In some states he would actually be required to run out of the back door and run away.
