Obey the laws in your state -- Minnesota [EDIT: Wisconsin, which does have Castle Doctrine -- still, you are better off not standing in the doorway, showing you have a firearm, but now you have an even better defense, and you don't have to wait until they are trying to break in, much better -- the rest still stands though] has more fucked up laws than IL, and in IL you can't brandish a firearm. So, in this situation: do not stand in the doorway (besides, you're making yourself a target, and stupid Duty to Retreat that you have to take into account), wait until they make a move to break in...and neutralize them (yes, it means exactly what you think -- DO NOT play around with these assholes! -- you have a better defense if you don't warn them by brandishing or wounding)...the laser pointers are a new thing, but a valid defense can be made if they are shining them into your house I think; not if you put yourself out there in a Duty to Retreat state (also making yourself a target)
Vote as intelligently as possible in your elections from here on out...so maybe you can 1. get rid of commies; 2. get better gun laws; 3 both
I realize that this is likely an unpopular opinion, so here are my reasonings:
by standing in the doorway you have just taken away a legal defense for yourself -- if you are taking cover/concealment, then you have more legal standing in such a state; you're playing by the rules, even if the rules are stupid
you have also not made a target of yourself -- the guy standing in the doorway, just made a big old silhouette of himself; if someone in that crowd had had a gun, they could have shot him (and pointed the lasers at him, potentially blinding him)...that's no good; don't turn yourself into a victim; do not give them a target; they could have also thrown an incendiary device...which is something you can address if they haven't stepped foot on your property IF you have covered/concealed
don't play with them -- we can safely assume that they would have no problems with killing or maiming you; this is for keeps -- about time they realize this; maybe it will discourage at least a few of the hangers on, and they stop pulling this criminal, stupid bullshit

We do live in different times. The key is to adapt and overcome. Acknowledge, make a plan, practice...it still isn't a failsafe, but it's better than not doing so.
A good thing to remember is: some of the things you can do to protect yourself legally, can also protect you literally. One of my kids was saying "you'll go out on the porch and tell them off, right?"..."No, I'm going to be inside where I'm not a target and a bit more legal, and I'm going to do my best to kill them if they should be so stupid as to try and come up and in; you will do the same; this is no game." My vehicle is also my "home", so it applies there too.
