Best analogy ever. Uncomfortably so, but still the best.

Every last one of these weak willed teevee dumdum commies owes America an apology! I will have nothing to do with ANY of these pinko scum until they do! I don't care if they're my coworker, my boss, neighbor, sibling, parent, decades old friends... you commies apologize for what you've allowed to fester!!!

One of my and my husband's only female friends quit her good-paying job (that she had no risk of losing) at the beginning of all this COVID-1984 bullshit and moved back in with her parents in Denver. She went from being moderately based--light TDS that we were red-pilling out of her--to being full-on blue-pilled. She still doesn't have a job but has managed to donate to BLM multiple times, protest, and constantly bitch about how bad the orange man is. Needless to say, we're not friends anymore.

It's amazing how quickly the love of communism takes hold when you're a jobless loser living in your parent's house.

Hold the line 'Pede!

On the flip side of your story... I have a friend in San Diego who's been a die hard straight Democrat voter for decades. All this covid-1984 bullshit has caused their business to completely crash and they're having a hard time trying to justify all of the stringent lockdowns that are being put in place. For the 1st time in their lives they are going to vote straight Republican... There IS still hope!

That is good news! Thank you for sharing!

And in Denver to boot.

Seeing as he hasn't completely removed you from his life because you support Trump, I believe there is hope. Also, creative analogy, I like it.

I got an a very brief argument with a liberal friend over NPR. The conversation started fairly inoccuous, I was just telling him about the Chinese virologist whistleblower story, added that I don't know if it's true or not, just pointing out that it is interesting and pretty major news if it ends up being true. He made a remark that he'll be more likely to believe it if he sees it on NPR or something. I said "Oh really? I'd be less likely to believe it if it was on NPR, NPR is propaganda..it's fake news." He instantly got super defensive, said "you know Trump FUNDS NPR right?" I said "I know our tax dollars fund NPR, that's terrible. We literally fund propaganda. NPR needs to be defunded." He said "I think I'm done with this conversation, that is so ridiculous." and I said "I know, it IS ridiculous that our tax dollars fund propaganda! They need to be defunded." And he said "NO, THAT'S NOT WHAT'S RIDICULOUS. I'm done with this conversation."

And that was it.

I notice this with my liberal friends. Any disagreement on politics, no matter how minor, sends them into a rage that they can only control for a very short time and will explode if the conversation doesn’t end immediately. That’s part of the brainwashing. Their view is so deeply ingrained in them that it is like breathing. Being told something that goes against that view is like suffocating. Any other subject there can be disagreements and we can talk about it and it’s not a big deal.

It's strange to me, I don't get mad when they bash Fox or conservative outlets. It's like they consider certain things holy/sacred, like fact checkers for example, and they never question anything they are told from these holy sources. I question things from The_Donald all the time, because I know it's partisan here. But the people here actually fact check each other, something you almost never see on reddit. They just blindly believe anything that says orange man bad.

That's because they know Biden is one and their only defense is to pretend that Trump is too.

"liberal friends" is an oxymoron. They will cancel you as soon as you let your political affiliation slip.

turdinthepunch [S] 15 points ago +16 / -1

That is not necessarily true. This particular friend is well aware of my politics and having a friend as conservative as me has forced him to recalculate what he thinks of Trump supporters. We have substantive debates and he is one of the smartest people I know, we just think differently and I think he is wrong.

“one of the smartest people I know” no he’s not. He’s easily manipulated and weak.

They aren't dumb, just ignorant - "lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about a particular thing". Not everyone has gone down the rabbit hole yet, and some do prefer to remain ignorant.

I had an employee (mid-30s) in a technical field who was reasonably good at what he did but always came up short of being excellent. His work ethic and smarts are both well over the 95th percentile, and it bothered the hell out of me that something was just not "clicking" for him.

During a skype conversation with him one day about a set of tests I wanted him to perform to prove/disprove basic facts about a customer problem that was dumped into my team's lap after simmering for a couple of months, it came out that he had no idea how to practically apply the scientific method. He was familiar with it, but it was taught to him in school like some kind of arcane witchery that people used to do before computers and search engines came along.

I spent less than three minutes explaining the relevance of "observe, hypothesize, predict, test, interpret, keep/discard, and repeat" to the problem at hand, and it was like a light bulb switched on in his head. He ran that problem into the ground in less than a couple of hours, and his analytical report was bulletproof.

This worked out great for him and for the company since this propelled him into excellence and he was already in a mentoring role for others, but I shudder to think that he wasted over ten years in the industry beating his head against the wall over problems because his teachers failed him so badly.

Haha, I’ve been hitting liberal friends hard. They don’t respond anymore. They know they don’t have any arguments anymore.

These are people I grew up with from elementary school. Ups and downs through life, we’ve been there for each other, but we still fight over politics.

Imagine shaming people for having friends that had different opinions and philosophies than them.

Most of my lib "friends" dumped me in 2016. The ones who didn't refuse to talk to me now. And my life is much better as a result.

FRENS don’t let their friends on the wrong side of the divide. FRENS generously hand out red pills to those they like.

Yep, libs are the ones who cut ties because they can't handle being exposed to different opinions. If anything, you're better off without them.

3
mnguy12000 3 points ago +3 / -0

yep its usually the libs who dump you and not the other way around. Lost a ton a "friends" after the 16 election because I was pro Trump. While I have went about my life and improved it, these fools continue to spiral downward because Clinton didn't win.

It is a hard thing to deprogram someone and have them shift their world view. I would not abandon any friend that was to the left of me while they were still willing to discuss politics in good faith. He's a better friend than you probably are lol.
