My theory is that they wanted to save money on her campaign. Stay with me here: She lost in 2018 in a district that contains one of the few blue areas in Kentucky (Lexington) even though it's closer to purple. To win as a Democrat in Kentucky right now, you would have to dominate in Lexington and Louisville. She's already proven she can't do that.
Flash back to 2018: One of the things I noticed was that her signs and bumper stickers just had her name. Not the office she was running for (i.e. - McGrath for Congress) or the year. I started thinking then that if she lost, they were just going to recycle her again this year. I figured it would be for another House run, but I think the Dems knew they had nobody to challenge McConnell. They started running her campaign ads about a year and a half ago.
Then, when the BLM stuff came out, some black guy showed up out of nowhere to challenge her in the last three weeks or so before the primaries. Then they screwed with the primary vote so he couldn't sneak in because it was much closer than expected. I don't think it was because he couldn't win against McConnell. I think it was simply because they already spent all the money they were going to spend on her campaign. Her supporters just kept the stickers on the cars and probably have the signs still in their garages. She's using footage from her commercials from 2018 in her new ads. They're not just being "smart" with their money. They don't want to waste it on a losing campaign.
Makes sense. She's not from Kentucky so she doesn't have any stake in the things that allow the state to thrive. Coal industry being one of those.
Least Mitch has lived most his life here and actually does things for the state on occasion.
She won't and that's likely why the state party has been pushing her so hard.
