Heh, yeah, I know of a lot of things that definitely pack more punch than the standard AR-15 yet the libs seem to have apoplexy at the thought of them.

Not that I want to be hit by any of them, mind you. Even a .22LR can do some damage despite what people have been led to believe.

Is 22LR really much different from .223 wylde or 5.56?

Yes there is a difference between .22LR and 5.56/.223 -- 5.56/.223 has more speed and mass. Nonetheless, people out there who scoff at .22 caliber, calling it no more dangerous than BB pellets...are not really telling the truth, and leading a lot of first time gun owners (especially smaller women) away from a very user friendly caliber that is probably some of the cheapest ammo to boot (aka. the perfect thing to learn on).
We have a .22 rifle and handgun that are our kids' first learner guns -- and to be honest, I like shooting them myself. And in a pinch they're capable -- just have to know how to use it.
