I'm an engineering professor. I see kernels of conservatism at work, but most are too afraid to say or do much. It's not dissimilar to society in that we are being driven off the rails by a vocal minority. Granted, in the sociology dept. they are the absolute majority.

English here, have taught at the public schools as well, I see the same things. Oddly, the public schools are at present a bastion of conservativism in this region, but the local colleges have become liberal la-la land (even 5 years ago they weren't that bad, and there are still people there, they just really keep quiet now). So, guess where most of the replacement teachers come from :/
