Amen. I was pleasantly surprised at his honesty. That kind of willingness to objectively examine things and try them out, and to change one's mind given new evidence, is the mentality that separates compatible American liberalism from the extremist leftist mentality that will not discuss or allow themselves to see any other point of view than their own predetermined conclusions.

Thats the part of the human condition I cant wrap my head around. Doubling down on a mistake makes zero sense.

I'm wrong, more times that I care to admit. Owning up to being wrong is in my eyes the right move and also the morally correct path to lay it out there. Also everyone around you respects you and (as a leader/boss) know they can admit a mistake and won't be shunned.

I'd love to be perfect. Naw that would be a boring life, I'll stay flawed!

Sowell's Vision of the Anointed is an extremely compelling examination of this doubling-down that more zealous progressives do so much. He talks about how and why they will refuse to admit to being wrong despite repeated failures and evidence of their error. They start from the premise of their own righteousness, and so any potential mistakes would be a blow to their own moral superiority.

"They start from the premise of their own righteousness"

Pride, isn't that a sin?
