I have long predicted that many leaders on the left were trying to hurt people with a lockdown just to blame any damage on Trump.

It's partly this, maybe even mostly this. If the country is "destabilizing" then people are more likely to vote for change.

It's also simply people that have been insignificant their entire lives, who now have this shred of influence. They suffered from bad decisions, so now you too must suffer (ironically, from their bad decisions).

Trump is basically their nightmare, bringing prosperity to all, so of course they'll do whatever they can to plunge people back into poverty.

If by "kill the poor" you mean elimate poverty than I agree. But I'm guessing the guy didn't realize how bad it sounded when he said that.
