Yesterday evening, I was pulled over. I KNEW I wasn’t speeding because I was coming up on a toll that’s a total speed trap, and there were several cop cars waiting to pull people over. I recently moved from a different state, and was pulled over for a traffic law that wouldn’t necessarily apply everywhere. I gave the cop my license and registration, I rolled down the back window when the officer asked me to (I understood this was for his safety because my windows are tinted), I didn’t talk to him like he was a piece of shit, I didn’t reach for a weapon or make him feel like he was in danger at any point. I also don’t have any warrants out for my arrest for any reason because I’m not a criminal, and -CRAZY STORY- I wasn’t pepper sprayed, tazed, shot, beaten, or arrested. Guy let me off with a warning because I’m from out of state. It’s almost like, if you’re just respectful to the police, don’t make them feel like you’re going to hurt them, and don’t have anything to hide, they’re regular people behind the uniform who won’t just beat or kill you for no reason🤔

my grandma told me if you have interacting with police be polite and it may save you from a fine although i did receive a few fines the officers also put in the report how cooperative i was and 99% of the time the judge took that into consideration and gave me the lowest penalty one of the many lessons g'ma gave me that still helps today
So threatening to kill the cop and rape/kill his whole family isn't a good way to get out of a ticket?
Hmm, I may need to rethink my entire life of how I handle interactions with cops if that’s the case /s
I’m glad I read this thread. I was planning on threatening cops and being completely resistant and unreasonable at any tragic stop.
I think the moral of the story was if you treat cops like humans they'll do the same.
Yeah- pissed me off they asked for my wife’s ID. There was absolutely no reason for it except to run her information to see if she had a warrant or anything. But- neither of us had anything to hide, and I figured the cop would just give us a warning if I did whatever. That’s the bad side of the story...feeling like I was choosing between not getting a ticket and/or saying “No. You have no reason to need my wife’s ID.”
When I was younger i was a shithead. I would get pulled over all the time, police looking for drugs or guns. I would wait in my car and watch more cars pull up, until I'd be told how to exit the vehicle and come out at gunpoint. Then I'd be put in cuffs, stuffed into the back of a squad car and watch the police ransack my car.
Usually i wasn't speeding or driving erratically because i knew the game. I wouldn't get mad after like the 5th time; my lawyer told me the group i was with was under investigation. I would BS with whatever cop was acting the least like a Sturmbanfuhrer and go on my way... After putting all of my stuff back into my car.
Once i was no longer a shithead, i wasn't pulled over anymore. I had far fewer runins with police. I understand the dislike some people have for police. I get it 100%. Even back then i understood that i had a "job" to do, and so did they. Our jobs ran afoul of each other and, in most cases, it wasn't personal. When they finally caught me, it was hands up "guess you got me" and No anger.
I know bad cops exist, but the police know that bad people exist. Once you can prove to them that you aren't a bad person, police are usually much more respectful.
I've had to deal with law enforcement several times due to poor choices on my part. But I was always polite and respectful. And have gotten a free pass more times than not because of it.
Same experiences here.
Sometimes. Then again,I was once ticketed for going 34 in a 30 and it wasn't even radar. He just eyeballed it.
This happened to me. I must have looked incredulous even though I was trying to be civil because he told me sternly, "There have been complaints."
If you say "yes sir", "no sir", and shoot the shit with them by saying "i respect what you do" and "i could never do that" and stuff like that, they let you off every time. I haven't gotten a ticket in 10 years.
Their jobs are stressful enough, even BEFORE BLM BS... and now more than ever they're all on edge wondering if the next traffic stop they'll be killed or have to kill someone and have their life ruined. Sure, being stopped sucks, but just don't be an ass and everything will be fine.
That just goes to prove your white privilege! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I never said I was white😏
That just goes to prove your acting properly privilege! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
The last time I got pulled over by a cop, I got a warning... and got married the next year.
No, not to the cop. But, the two events were connected. I'm not telling the entire story, for obvious reasons.

Police are regular blue collar folks. Most great, some not, but in the end we want our laws enforced and that applies to ourselves as well. They have a dangerous job.
If you don’t like police because they pull you over for speeding, then don’t speed and you never have to worry about it again.
The worst of the cops that I have ever interacted with was just businesslike and not friendly back to me in response to my friendliness. Most are very cool once they see that you are respectful of their job and appreciative.
If you have the time, check out my post about my arrest stories- not too far down in my posts.
I can't even tell you how many times being nice to a police officer has got me out of trouble and sometimes pretty good trouble.
