We should go through and compare a couple of similar cases that were handled lawfully and equitably from head to tail. I expect you'll find the equitable case to be superior.
In the classical definition of "equitable" I likely would, it's that "equity" is a loaded catch phrase now that when used almost always indicates the speaker is wanting to imply that charge.
Is it fair (equitable, lol) to the word? No. But it just kinda is how it is, much like "racist" has been more recently redefined into "white person".
Many words have bad uses, but Rights are a form of equity. So are the Checks and Balances. The US wouldn't exist without it. Even local jurisdictions still have equitable civil courts.
Of course even equity can be abused and mangled like you're saying, however so can law, Civility, anything really. It doesn't take away the good parts!
Social equity is a fundamentally retarded concept.
What does the Social Equity movement from the 1960's have to do with any of this? That's like saying Democrats define democracy! Fucking straw man.
When you say "equity" in today's world, you're referring to "equality of outcome", a concept rooted in fantasy.
If you don't want to be read like this, choose different words that don't have taint attached.
A second thought, a bit of an aside.
