Well what am I missing? Plenty of asymptomatic people are getting tested, for some unknown fucking reason. But if the test isn't to determine if you have a specific virus,covid-19, then what's it for?

It can’t detect covid-19 specifically. You could get a positive result by simply having a cold caused by a different strain.
