WeChat is like iMessage, FB, Insta, Twitter, EBay, bookings.com, Expedia etc all rolled into one app. It’s actually incredible but has benefited from lack of competition in the Chinese market due to restrictions on foreign companies. Plus they are lawfully required to share all data with the Chinese Govt and censor anything that goes against the CCP or its views.
Remember when we were kids and we laughed at our parents for not knowing what the latest craze was? That's me now, except I don't have a kid.
