China uses an approach to spying that has turned out to be superior. They collect vast amounts of data from everyone they can, then later on scan it for useful information. Those dancing teenagers today will be tomorrow's engineers, soldiers, & college professors who can be bribed to give them valuable information. China is raping the American university research programs this very way, enlisting professors & getting them to share their research through back channels. The DOJ & FBI are both involved in looking for colleges that share research with China & they're prosecuting them because there's laws against that. Harvard and Yale have both been found to be doing this. It's a massive problem. China is also striking deals with elementary & high schools, not to steal research, but to get them to use carefully designed curricula that's really propaganda in order to make children see China in a positive light with the hope that when they're adults, they'll be easy to enlist as internal spies wherever they end up working.
It's hard to get sources to answer your question properly as all information surrounding this has been flooded by propaganda designed to make this appear to be all about US and Chinese rivalry.
It's not, all kinds of security flaws have been found in the app this year to include a built in ftp service that would allow anyone with access to clandestinely upload/download anything to the device. As far as cybersecurity goes, that's about as malicious as it gets.
Genuinely curious. How does it spy on you? Who exactly is doing the spying? What is spied upon?
Why would (whoever it is) want to spy on mostly teenagers making cringe dance videos, joke-skit videos or “challenge” videos?
Doesn’t seem like there’s a ton of good substance to spy on via tik tok?
Can someone ELI5?

Damn okay. Great explanation.

yet the gatekeepers (google and apple) allowed it into their app store / play store worldwide?
