I'm all for banning tick tok. I think it's definitely a security risk and such. Am I the only one that's concerned about precedent? Any future pres can now wave a wand under the veil of security and ban an app. With the same precedent why isn't faceapp (the face swapping app that was linked to Russia) banned?

I just think it's funny all the social media "influencers" that get 100K subscribers watching their idiotic antics on pointless TikTok videos will now have to get a life. "Social Media Influencer" is not a real job.

I know right? Everyone that needs attention, will have to find another way

TikTok isn’t “linked” to the CCP

It’s directly owned by them and everything posted is routed through their servers.

Side note: can we ban the word “linked” ? It’s thrown around in every single article about Trump or his people being “linked” to nefarious people/places

Just because it's "linked" to Russia doesn't mean anything unless it's shown that they are capable of backdoor data mining with it. With regard to TicToc, that capability was manifest, hence its ban.

Are you comparing apples to apples? I've not heard faceapp compared to tiktok.

Im just saying what's stopping a president in the future (hypothetically speaking) getting into an argument with google doesnt get what he/she wants, and then puts a nationwide firewall around it?

Oh. EOs dont operate based on precedent, so it won't affect future executive authority.

If it were challenged in court as unconstitutional, then it would set precedent for future EOs.
