Melbourne is very much a founding city, like Boston or New York. Traditionally it's been our Mediterranean migrant city - specifically Greeks. Though in recent years this has given way to mainland African migration. It thinks itself to be very progressive.
TLDR - Victoria/Melbourne is our East Coast US city.
