Went to lunch today to grab some wings and beer with a friend at a local bar. We weren't able to be seated inside or at the bar due to them hitting covid capacity. The place recently had event tents like you see at corporate outings set up in the parking lot for overflow to work around Polis' smooth brain written rules.
We had a couple beers and some delicious wings and as we are getting ready to leave I noticed two firefighters taking pictures of the tent and both saying 'this isn't ok.'
I asked what they were looking at and the one guy said the canopy anchor wasn't set right. I'm not a GC but have been in and around the construction industry for nearly 20 years. The anchors looked fine to me so I asked Mr Mustache in his hand picked two sizes to small polo if the fire department didn't have anything better to do.
He said 'What's that?'
I told him 'What I see is a local business struggling to jump through hoops set up by the state so they can provide a living for their families and jobs for dozens of others. I also see someone who is employed by the state who wasn't affected by these shut downs, who depends on these businesses and their taxes to buy your new fancy trucks and overpriced frat houses like the new $8million 'fuck you' custom brick firehouse (not joking) you just built down the street, looking to bite the hand that feeds. You're such a hero.'
I didn't even listen to what they had to say and walked back to my truck. As I was driving I thought I should give the restaurant a heads up that these two chuckleheads weren't pleased with their tent. I talked to the manager and she said the two of them came in and said that the tent wasn't acceptable. She told them to fuck off because the city was out earlier and signed off on the construction and the permit. She then went on to tell me that the local fire department checks their restaurant at least twice a day for capacity and does manual headcounts in hopes of being able to ticket the restaurant. She said all of the local restaurants tell her they're doing the same.
I feel like I should write the fire department a letter or try to talk to the fire marshal. Maybe call up my local representative? Talk to the local business owners and see if they're organized and what I can do to help?
It absolutely pisses me off that these guys have NOTHING better to do with OUR money as many people in all sorts of industries suffer to even make any. I don't know what pisses me off more. Seeing firemen take their toy out to the store to go shopping together for their night's sleepover cook out in their $8million house with a pole, outfitted with top of the line Traeger smokers and Webber grills OR watching them fuck with people over stupid shit because their mustache comes with a +10 rating to Power Complex.
Where's the Tylenol
Wtf is with these guys. Unreal
Don't get me wrong I know many of great firefighters. I've been around the restoration industry and have done board up contracts, spills, quick cleanups, temporary shoring/structures etc and have worked with some honest good dudes and I've have seen some nasty stuff they signed up for.
The time I did a walkthrough of a fire and saw what was the fat of a slow cooked body stringing from the bottom of a mattress to the floor knowing this dude that responded definitely felt bad they didn't get there in time. I get it and I get some of them sacrifice a ton.
BUT I'm not cool with them going around being dicks to people cause they have 'authority.' I got 'warned' last summer for having a fire pit that wasn't 2'x2'x'2 cause some no-friend twat reported the size of my awesome bonfire during a bbq she wasn't invited to.
These departments need to be auditing right now which in their ranks are out to protect and serve and which are out to collect and serve. OUT OUT OUT with the latter.
Yeah, that's a bunch of shit.
