If Mitch McConnell wants to, he can all but ensure that whoever Trump nominates, is approved. Here's how he does it, easy as pie:
Whoever Trump nominates gets a floor vote. This vote happens sometime in late October. If that vote fails, Cocaine Mitch then recesses the Senate, allowing Trump to make a recess appointment for the seat (and any other open positions).
Keep in mind, a judicial recess appointment lasts until the end of the next Senate, so this is not a minor thing; that person would be a SC judge for over 2 years. Lot can happen in 2 years.
Plus (and this is the reason the RINOs will hold their nose and vote to confirm) a recess would give Trump the opportunity for the first time to appoint candidates HE likes, not just those that can make it through confirmation.
It's all on Mitch, though. He has the weaponry to win this fight.
