Representatives are suppose to represent the districts that elected them, not the party. Elected representatives are obligated to represent everyone regardless of their party affiliation. That's what's wrong in our country today.

Limit campaign contributions to citizens of the State or District.

Nah, political parties are a good way to give people an idea about a candidate without spending hours reading about them. Party unity is fine, but two political parties are nowhere near enough to actually represent the entire country.

The solution is to change out voting system so that a third party actually has a chance of getting elected.

I agree. But I think the Democrats have proven over the last 150 years that their party places their priorities over the well being of the country. But...it comes down to us voters to realize that.

Sometimes I wish there was a party for socially conservative, fiscally liberal. That's what I am, but people seem to think I have the worst traits of both parties! So I don't fit in anywhere.

Democrats in the South are more conservative than Republicans in the Northeast.

Parties are just ways to form coalitions before the general election. Republicans are the coalition of the more "right-leaving" groups, while Democrats are the coalition of the more "left-leaning" groups. Don't expect to much from national coalitions.
