I think you're looking at it backwards. To even have a chance of making it on Trump's long list (much less his short list), credentials must be impeccable. Both these women (and any other candidate under consideration) more than merit the opportunity.

I think it's because speed is essential and will be harder to delay confirmation of a candidate who's not white or male.
We have the votes in the senate with Pence being the tiebreaker. There's literally nothing the dems could do to stop the confirmation.
