Virtually all conflicts in human history were fought because of race or ethnicity, or at least along the lines of it.
To this day people in Africa slaughter each other by the millions because one tribe has a slightly different skin color than another tribe.
A "colorblind" society was attempted in America, but only white people tried it. Meanwhile other races kept their identities, in group preference, and privileges, such as affirmative action.
