Yep. They started pud loading (“FBI loading”) their 10mm. Someone finally realized you could use a shorter case once less powder was being used, and the .40 was born.
Ive actually had some 40 chrono slightly faster than 10mm in the same bulletweight. Most of the 10 you get off the shelves are a complete joke. Buffalo bore and underwood Are my go to. Corbon is pretty good too.
I've got no hate for any caliber. My favorite pistol is my X-Five Legion because the sum-bitch is accurate as fuck, however I daily carry my M&P .45 and spend more range time with it. My next purchase will be that SIG 10mm hunter edition. I'm a simple man and like the idea of 10mm over my .45 stopping a hog while I'm bow hunting.
They also found that hand cannons made more suspects surrender after hearing magnum rounds discharging near them even with out striking the suspect. I've got no hate for 9mm but it is a preferred round because the recoil is low and you can follow up so quickly, so inherently is better for inexperienced shooters to the most experienced. Going from M9 to my M&P .45 was a learning curve for rapid shot placement and still can't touch what I can group rapidly with my X-Five. I'm not a cop so I don't get the option of missing my intended target or them surviving to sue me.
Was stationed near Quantico, VA and had a buddy screwing an FBI candidate. She was so full of her self that she thought she could run faster and longer distance...Until we took her for a run from Iwo Jima Monument to the National Cathedral where she then got a cab while we ran back 🤣. Same shit, she thought she could out shoot us so we took her to North Carolina and broke those dreams as well. Damn college athletes getting drunk would all get the same attitude about their superiority until some 18 year old PVT fucks them up and they would cry foul. Lost a lot of respect for FBI standards when she become an agent.
They did adopt it, but too many of their limp wristed agents were unable to qualify with it because of muh recoil, so they started using weak loadings. S&W decided that if they wanted to water down 10mm so much, why not just make a shorter round instead if wasting all that headspace, and the .40S&W was born.
The hilarious thing is that there were even complaints about muh recoil and agents failing to qualify with .40S&W, so now they are back to 9mm again.
Some 'investments' you would be proud to hand down to your kids...
I have a relative - whose father passed away. He got the entire collection of 10 or so... - and over half are malfunctioning or don't work at all... others are in poor shape, poorly maintained...shocking really...
Repairs would run more than the worth in some cases... truly a nightmare scenario.
When I buy - I am mostly buying forever... to hand down to my kids... and if I am lucky - they will hand it down to there kids as well.
That seems to be the sweet spot - gotta shoot something less common but still in stock.
My last Academy trip the shelves were bare except for 223(with limits), 450 legend and... M1 carbine. I smile to imagine the raggedy-assed group of heroes that would supply.
10mm is such an underrated round. Plus ammo is still available. Only downsides I can see are over penetration and high recoil but naturally those issues can be mitigated with adequate training.
Got my eye on a Glock 20 as well as that Rock Island 1911 double stack. Might pull the trigger on one next week (pun intended). :)
I have a two of them. $400-500 when I bought. Holds 15 I think then 1 in chamber. That's a lot of rounds. I guy I bought it from used it for bears when he was in Alaska.
Love my M&P .45 however you give up some FPS because the barrel length. Looking into reloading some Leigh Defense .45cal to get 1100-1200 fps speed with a PWC comparable to a 5.56 PWC
I shoot the S&W the most because it is my favorite. If I was combining deer and winter carry I would go with the G-20. Long enough sight plane for hunting and plenty of firepower for self defense or bear attack.
Love 10mm but it's sad that only a couple ammo manufacturers load them up to what they were intended to handle. The rest are all way watered down because people couldn't handle the recoil.
That Smith was my first pistol, never fired or left the dealer. The dealer got a G20 in during the waiting period which I immediately traded for. Never regretted it but will always remember the Smith for kick starting my love for 10mm.
Any thoughts on a Glock 20 for cc? Seriously considering one for such a purpose. I usually rotate between a Springfield XD and a Glock 19 for EDC but I wanna keep practicing and save my 9mm ammo.
Edit: I’m aware of the Glock 29 model. I’m a somewhat larger guy and can cc larger guns. Plus I like the capacity of the 20.
That was my bad - somehow my follow up post didn't go thru. At quick glance the delta triangle looked like it was part of the script logo on a Kimber. Just good natured ribbing on those polymer striker fired things:) Godspeed and MAGA my friend!
10 mm is best cm
Still think 9mm is best but I will say 10mm will kill fucking bears.
9mm for the hoods. 10mm for the woods as the saying goes. :)
That's why I have mine. I live in bear country.
Which state, Pede? Alaska, Colorado, Wyoming?
Oregon.
Chicago.
I've heard that before.
Another FBI fuck up, not adopting this and making .40 s&w become common place
Most factory 10mm is watered down crap these days. Underwood and hot stuff like that is nice, though.
As for short & weak, I can still find it for a reasonable price during all this craziness.
Spez: And the FBI’s decision was apparently based in large part on female agents failing their shooting tests with the hotter ammo.
I've heard the exact same thing. The ladies couldn't handle the 10mm so they switched. Equality.
Yep. They started pud loading (“FBI loading”) their 10mm. Someone finally realized you could use a shorter case once less powder was being used, and the .40 was born.
BUWHAHAHAHhahaa. Females BTFO by 10mm.
Yeah, and they couldn't handle the .40S&W either, so now they have come full circle back to 9mm.
Ive actually had some 40 chrono slightly faster than 10mm in the same bulletweight. Most of the 10 you get off the shelves are a complete joke. Buffalo bore and underwood Are my go to. Corbon is pretty good too.
I reload 10mm. That's the way to go.
Underwood makes some good stuff.
I've got no hate for any caliber. My favorite pistol is my X-Five Legion because the sum-bitch is accurate as fuck, however I daily carry my M&P .45 and spend more range time with it. Field experience changed that line of thought.
FBI studies show more bullets, is far better than more power + less bullets..
They study and show high capacity 9mm is the way to go...
LEO's in the field miss their targets allot... and that is a key consideration.
https://sofrep.com/gear/the-reasons-why-fbi-went-to-back-to-9mm/
Recoil also had a lot to do with it, as well as improvements in 9mm defensive ammo.

Female agents couldn't handle the 10mm
That Camo Sig is pretty sweet.
Lol. It's camouflaged!
Bottom left - no?
5 handguns. 1 bush.
P220 10mm Hunter
Very nice, but spendy.
yeah- -

I haven’t seen a 1911 10mm. I have the glock 20 SF and love it. It’s my sidearm anywhere I carry. She bangs!
It a Colt Delta Elite.
10mm 1911’s are actually fairly common. Most 1911 manufacturers usually offer something in 10mm
10mm is definitely making a comeback. Rightly so.
It’s definitely a great round when loaded to its full potential.
I have a Rock Island Armory double stack 10mm 1911. I love it, but I have big hands.
🇺🇸🚁💣🐻🐝🌍🇺🇸
Are you having any problems finding 10mm ammo during the current shortages?
None. Hell, the local Academy Sports has had it in stock whenever I’ve stopped by the last three months. Win.
Awesome
That seems to be the sweet spot - gotta shoot something less common but still in stock.
My last Academy trip the shelves were bare except for 223(with limits), 450 legend and... M1 carbine. I smile to imagine the raggedy-assed group of heroes that would supply.
M1 Carbine + Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine = Happy Paul Harrell
No problem here...I reload. 😉
Get the eaa tanfoglio witness 10mm if the your worried about recoil.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll check it out.
I have a two of them. $400-500 when I bought. Holds 15 I think then 1 in chamber. That's a lot of rounds. I guy I bought it from used it for bears when he was in Alaska.
I
I own both. The RAI is really sweet and I enjoy shooting it. It helps to have large hands with the double stack.
Thankfully, I do have rather large hands. :)
I wish S&W would make a 10mm m&p. Been wanting a .45 but would go for the 10mm first.
I'm patiently waiting for CZ to make a 10mm.
Love my M&P .45 however you give up some FPS because the barrel length. Looking into reloading some Leigh Defense .45cal to get 1100-1200 fps speed with a PWC comparable to a 5.56 PWC
Combat Delta for the win.
cat reading newspaper..,I should get a 10 mm.
Make that meme right now!
True, but the renewed popularity is increasing options.
Reloading takes care of that problem and saves a lot of money as well.
That Smith was my first pistol, never fired or left the dealer. The dealer got a G20 in during the waiting period which I immediately traded for. Never regretted it but will always remember the Smith for kick starting my love for 10mm.
I love my S&W. It is a pleasure to shoot and really well engineered. Plus, it’s rare enough at the range that pride in ownership is through the roof.
Should of went with the smith. They keep going up in value!
I prefer practicality and function.
Get both? Haha.
I shoot mostly .40 in my 10mm.
The long Glock feels weird.
You need a Colt Delta Elite!
There’s one right in the picture lol
You mean ANOTHER Delta Elite. There is a blued one in the pic.
S&W 1006! FBI's best gun design.
More is better.
Very nice. You don’t see blued Deltas that often these days.
I see you are a man of culture.
Oh, me likey. Me likey very much!
I carry the G-29 CC if I feel I may need the punch. I wish I had the build and clothing options to carry the 20.
Ditch the tupperware on the right and add a Delta Elite and Dan Wesson Razorback to the left column. I'm also a fan of 1cm holes.
Well, the 1911 pictured IS a Delta Elite. And I have a Tanfoglio Hunter longs life for tighter groups. Will eventually get a DW.
That was my bad - somehow my follow up post didn't go thru. At quick glance the delta triangle looked like it was part of the script logo on a Kimber. Just good natured ribbing on those polymer striker fired things:) Godspeed and MAGA my friend!
Need a S&W 610 and an Ar. Nice set of semis.
Tupperware 😂😂😂 haven’t heard that one before.
