Yep. They started pud loading (“FBI loading”) their 10mm. Someone finally realized you could use a shorter case once less powder was being used, and the .40 was born.
Ive actually had some 40 chrono slightly faster than 10mm in the same bulletweight. Most of the 10 you get off the shelves are a complete joke. Buffalo bore and underwood Are my go to. Corbon is pretty good too.
I've got no hate for any caliber. My favorite pistol is my X-Five Legion because the sum-bitch is accurate as fuck, however I daily carry my M&P .45 and spend more range time with it. My next purchase will be that SIG 10mm hunter edition. I'm a simple man and like the idea of 10mm over my .45 stopping a hog while I'm bow hunting.
They also found that hand cannons made more suspects surrender after hearing magnum rounds discharging near them even with out striking the suspect. I've got no hate for 9mm but it is a preferred round because the recoil is low and you can follow up so quickly, so inherently is better for inexperienced shooters to the most experienced. Going from M9 to my M&P .45 was a learning curve for rapid shot placement and still can't touch what I can group rapidly with my X-Five. I'm not a cop so I don't get the option of missing my intended target or them surviving to sue me.
Was stationed near Quantico, VA and had a buddy screwing an FBI candidate. She was so full of her self that she thought she could run faster and longer distance...Until we took her for a run from Iwo Jima Monument to the National Cathedral where she then got a cab while we ran back 🤣. Same shit, she thought she could out shoot us so we took her to North Carolina and broke those dreams as well. Damn college athletes getting drunk would all get the same attitude about their superiority until some 18 year old PVT fucks them up and they would cry foul. Lost a lot of respect for FBI standards when she become an agent.
They did adopt it, but too many of their limp wristed agents were unable to qualify with it because of muh recoil, so they started using weak loadings. S&W decided that if they wanted to water down 10mm so much, why not just make a shorter round instead if wasting all that headspace, and the .40S&W was born.
The hilarious thing is that there were even complaints about muh recoil and agents failing to qualify with .40S&W, so now they are back to 9mm again.
Another FBI fuck up, not adopting this and making .40 s&w become common place
Most factory 10mm is watered down crap these days. Underwood and hot stuff like that is nice, though.
As for short & weak, I can still find it for a reasonable price during all this craziness.
Spez: And the FBI’s decision was apparently based in large part on female agents failing their shooting tests with the hotter ammo.
I've heard the exact same thing. The ladies couldn't handle the 10mm so they switched. Equality.

BUWHAHAHAHhahaa. Females BTFO by 10mm.
Yeah, and they couldn't handle the .40S&W either, so now they have come full circle back to 9mm.

I reload 10mm. That's the way to go.
Underwood makes some good stuff.

Field experience changed that line of thought.
FBI studies show more bullets, is far better than more power + less bullets..
They study and show high capacity 9mm is the way to go...
LEO's in the field miss their targets allot... and that is a key consideration.

Recoil also had a lot to do with it, as well as improvements in 9mm defensive ammo.
