Why are the Mormons to blame? Hell, Trump himself endorsed Romney for Senate. Probably the worst move of his entire 4 years IMO.
Edit: if Mormons are to blame for Romney, then they get the credit for Orrin Hatch and the rest of the representatives and Senate. Can't have one without the other.
Mitt's opponent was a Mormon too. But he had no outside name recognition. The potential embarrassment of a former presidential nominee and governor running for the Senate and losing was so great that the money and the national endorsements poured in. Yes, regrettably, even from GEOTUS.
Because Trump doesn't make losing moves. If he's going to win anyway, it's the smart play. If the GOP establishment really turned on Trump he'd be a total lame duck.

Romney is a turncoat, bred from Michigan Republican stock.
He bamboozled me as well in 2012.

Nope. Trump endorsed Romney 4 months before the primary even though Romney had a viable opponent.
Ahh I didn't know that
Thanks, beat me to it.

I'd agree with you if he endorsed after the primary, but Trump's support for the other candidate may have locked out Pierre Delecto.
The primary can be unwinnable too. He has to be careful.
Even winning one Senate seat might not be worth the cost. If he's openly hostile to the GOP establishment, it's curtains.
Trump is too nice. Always gives people second chances and hopes they will do things better this time.
But as he said, politicians are so much more dishonest than businessmen.
