I had to turn my cable modem and router in today. Bought a new one, because I found out the company can use their equipment to snoop on everything I do online. They told me in order to activate my new stuff, I had to turn the old stuff into the store.

From the minute I walked into an empty store, the harpy at the customer service desk started in about my not wearing a mask. She spent ten minutes demanding I leave the store while I tried to explain that all I needed her to do is put in the computer that she received my equipment.

Not only will I not put on the face diaper, I can't. I'm exempt from the idiotic orders due to a medical condition. I informed her as much, and she kept right on badgering and threatening me. Finally, she warned me she was going to call someone. I said, "Good. Get someone out here who can serve me."

She went into the back room, and apparently spoke to her manager, who told her to go ahead and process my equipment. Once she was done, I smiled, and told her to have a nice day. She's probably still complaining about me to her cats.

Just wanted to get it out into the ether. I stood my ground today, and I won.

I carry a mask in my hand, visible to those near me. I tell them that I AM making a statement, that I'm not just a jackass who refuses to wear a mask and I won't lie to them and tell them I have a medical condition.

I tell them the person who is third in line to our nuclear codes is 80 years old and is in the demographic most at risk. She has decided that a mask is not necessary when she is in a public business and it proves there are two sets of rules in our country. I am choosing to follow the rules she follows.

Furthermore, as a courtesy and show of respect, I will put on this mask if we must be in close proximity.

We need to make a statement.

I had a grocery store that would turn people away if they didn't have a mask on - so I went to the other one that never said a word.

Yesterday I went in with no mask on - not a word anymore. People are waking up, they don't give a fuck anymore.

I wish you were right. After hurricane Sally almost everyone in Lowe's was wearing masks.

Not this person. I noticed right after hurricane and typical panic set in I saw no masks on people as priorities shifted. I look for the confrontation. Most just back down because most people of these generations are cowardly cunts

go all ada on these people; be pleasant but inform them you will not only sue the store, the manager but them personally for not respecting the ada act and violating your civil rights, that you are a member of a protected class. smile sweetly and say, "hope your bank account is up for it. gonna be a party."

RandoMando2A 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is the way. The useful idiots just following orders don’t understand that they are actively discriminating against someone not wearing a mask and putting themselves at risk of legal action. The best thing you can do when being harassed about not wearing a mask is remind them that guidelines are not laws and ask them to call the police so you can get the event documented and their names attached to the event. There is no LAW over wearing a mask. Then sue the pants off of them. This is the legitimate equivalent to the old slip and fall lawsuit.

It is the pussy way which explains most paper Patriots on here. Just say no thank you and keep walking. If forced say are you going to make an issue of this because I am ready for this fight. A mandate from some low iq politician is NOT a fucking law

I’m down with what you’re saying but it will just get you refused service here where I’m at. They give a shit about ADA, HIPPA, nothing.

Don’t want you there? You are patron there for service like all others. To single you out for not wearing a mask is harassment. Discrimination even if you have a medical condition or religious beliefs for not wearing one.

Just like how they pretty much neuter loss prevention teams. Anyways, never wore a mask, never will because it’s bullshit. Don’t wear the mask, they really won’t do shit and it feels nice.

Change your DNS pointers. OpenDND and Cloudflare are decent.

1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 Cloudflare

208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 OpenDNS

JeremiahKassin [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Done. I also use a VPN for most things, if it's an option. I just found out that my VPN doesn't matter if I'm using their equipment, though. Not quite paranoid enough to use TOR for everything, yet, but it's an option on my browser if I ever get there.

1
fazaman 1 point ago +1 / -0

Then they can snoop on you and sell your data.

Set up your own DNS. A pihole with unbound (the recursive DNS they include, but requires a minor additional setup) means they you're doing your own DNS queries. No ISP snooping, no couldflare or google or whatever snooping on tour DNS. Technically, you ISP can snoop regardless (unless you use DOH, which prevents the ISP from snooping, but not your doh provider) though.

3
Say-Ten 3 points ago +3 / -0

Every single ISP is required by law to record everything you do online.

4
JeremiahKassin [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Well, yes, but also no. They're required to send everything into a government database. However, they also can't necessarily see everything I do. I can't stop the government from decrypting my traffic and seeing everything I do, but I can keep my ISP from nagging me about certain... activities... I'd rather they not know about.

I may not wear a mask, but I've got no problem with eyepatches, if you know what I'm saying.

3
BeTransformed 3 points ago +3 / -0

A VPN would alleviate your concerns.

1
JeremiahKassin [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I used a VPN. It turns out, my particular ISP could still read any traffic coming through their modem.

1
fazaman 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not if its encrypted. If you're ... Downloading Linux distros, but encrypt at your end, all they see is the traffic. They can't tell what's in it. Now, if you're using a VPN, all they'll see is a stream of encrypted data .. Depending on where the VPN endpoint is, they can't even tell what type of data it is.

1
JeremiahKassin [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well, either way, I'm covered now.

2
HiddenDekuScrub 2 points ago +2 / -0

Work for ISP (a cell carrier) can confirm.

We can see very detailed logs about where data is coming and going, but we can't see what the data actually is. (Sometimes we can see filenames if and only if you upload them to a cloud service we provide.)

Now that said, a large amount of info can be divine from said logs. Now, for privacy reasons (Ironically, because some person with your pin might potentially call in to spy on you) a rep usually can't go into great detail about what they can see. But we can make some educated guesses on what services you are using, websites browsed, apps used, etc.

As you already stated, a VPN masks all that. But there are still ways.

Good for you. Same thing happened to me at a UPS store a couple weeks ago. Tonight, I stood my ground at my grocery store. Manager asked me to put on a mask. I said no thanks. He asked me to leave the store. I said that’s fine, you can ask all you want. He asked me to leave again. I offered to stop shopping and check out, then leave. He was very polite the entire time and so was I. He personally checked me out and I asked him if he could remember me for next time and he agreed. He asked if I could wear a face shield to appease store policy and other customers. I said it’s the same thing as not wearing a mask, so no thanks. He agreed that “it’s all bullshit.” We thanked each other for remaining polite and I left. Just politely stand your ground against this literal insanity and they can’t do shit.

3
Scroon 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes! I think the important thing is to be polite and friendly while still standing your ground. I've tried it both ways, and the being friendly but unwavering is more effective. The other side ends up looking stupid if they get upset.

Should recorded yourself handing it to her and saying I'm turning it in, gave your name and said "if you do not put in my information thats up to you, I have this on camera" and walked out but most people are brainwashed and treat women like they are all princesses and never think about doing anything in defending themselves against them. Hollywood and disney are to blame.

I went to the following four stores yesterday without a mask and nobody said shit to me except for one place:

Lowe's

Safeway

CVS

Michael's

CVS had a greeter at the door and she asked me to put on a mask. I said, "I have a medical exemption." And she said, "ok" and that was it.

None of the employees at any of the stores seemed weirded out by it and they were all super polite.

This is in the East Bay California BTW. If I can do it here, you can do it anywhere.

Also, my downtown has signs everywhere stating that there is a $100 fine for not wearing a mask, but still nobody said shit to me while I was walking around there maskless.

To add to my other comment and based off the reaction it got......

I guess now we're against private property rights and I guess privately owned business aren't private property anymore.....

We have apparently completely flipped our feelings on this from just 2 short years ago, when we all rabidly defended a private business owners personal choice rights In their own privately owned business to only bake cakes for the people they want to make cakes for and that they could discriminate anyway they personally chose in regards to who they make cakes for............

But if you're okay with threads like this and what these people are doing, then that means you are completely against the court's ruling on the bakery case that said it's their privately owned business and they have a right to serve whoever they want to... you would no longer defend that business again if it happened today, because if you did that would obviously make you a complete fucking hypocrite...

This is genuinely the first time I've seen our side be so hypocritical about something... It's really fucked up. we are supposed to be the defender of private rights and the defenders of private property rights, which now by a court ruling that we defended with our very souls gives the business the right to serve who they want to and serve how they want to serve them on their own private property...

Apparently that's just out the fucking door now, less than 2 years later, when the tables are turned and the private businesses are doing something we don't like as opposed to something we did like.... Go ahead and prove me wrong, I dare you...

I fucking hate masks and I don't wear them anywhere at all, but guess what? That doesn't mean I'm a fucking hypocrite... because I don't go against the very thing we've defended for so many years... I simply don't shop at those fucking places anymore, it's that goddamn simple. And voila, just like magic, I don't have to be a hypocrite....

2
JeremiahKassin [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

They managed to push out a law that's not a law to distinguish the most rabidly pro-Trump and pro-freedom so they can refuse us service for our political beliefs. Apologies to the libertarians among us, I don't think it's okay to allow businesses to refuse service to anyone for their political beliefs.

And it's not like we're talking about a restaurant or bookstore, here, either. This company offers an essential service. They're a utility, same as the power company. If they can refuse me service, they can cut me off from the world in a very vital way. The only way they should ever be permitted to do that is by order of a judge, or for non-payment. Anything else is an abuse of power granted them by the local municipality.

1
weebrian 1 point ago +1 / -0

You’re 100% correct. I never wear a mask. Nine times out of ten nobody says anything to me because either the manager/employees know masks are pointless or that my money is more important than a sign that corporate made them post on the door. If they do ask me to wear a mask, I politely tell them they’ll never see another dime of my money and leave.

Yes, the mask mandates are NOT laws, but a private business has the right to set some guidelines like dress codes, etc.

-7
DickTick -7 points ago +6 / -13

I still don't understand people doing this in private businesses...

I get it if it's a publicly owned business or space, but since when do we try to make private business owners do what we want them to do against their will? Regardless of how stupid it may be?

19
JeremiahKassin [S] 19 points ago +19 / -0

Since when do they get to require me to do something that will jeopardize my health?

-4
DickTick -4 points ago +4 / -8

I totally get that in a public space.... But if it's a privately owned business then they owe you nothing at all, just like on your own private property...

And in most cases it's as simple as not shopping at the place.... Which is normally how we handle shit about leftist businesses we don't like... it isn't until now that I've ever seen a ton of people resort to actual physical protest inside of the private business..... I know it sounds ridiculous but that's what it is when a private business is asking you not to do something, or not wanting to serve someone, and you go in and do it anyway... just like we defended the bakery that didn't want to make the gay couple a cake, and of course it was ruled that they were correct and didn't have to because it was a private business...

It literally makes us hypocrites. Especially anyone who agreed with or defended that bakery and their right and decision not to serve whoever they wanted to.

Edit -- I guess now we're against private property rights and I guess privately owned business aren't private property anymore.....

We have apparently completely flipped out feelings on this from just 2 short years ago, when we all rabidly defended a private business owners personal choice rights In their own privately owned business.............

I would like to say that I honestly see both sides to these arguments. You both make very good points and this is a perfect example of a grey area.

Thanks for sharing your points dudes!

1
JeremiahKassin [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

There's no real difference between a private business and public space in this case. The ISP holds a legal monopoly in my area. There is no alternative. It's a surprisingly common problem, and one I'm going to have to deal with until some other company decides to run fiber through my area, which would negate their current deal.

They paid to pass local ordinances saying no other company is allowed to compete with them. They are a branch of the government as far as I'm concerned.

10
mikegrouchy 10 points ago +10 / -0

They have been programmed by the subliminals in their media to fight for submission to, and obedience to, corporate experts.

Unrionically.

They are "well trained consumers."

13
JeremiahKassin [S] 13 points ago +13 / -0

The cable company holds an effective monopoly in my area. If I could've left the store and switched services, I would've. When competition is permitted again on the utility level, I'll give your argument more of a hearing. For now, though, there's no practical difference between public and private space.

6
mikegrouchy 6 points ago +6 / -0

Wearing a mask IS a medical decision - it lowers the intake of oxygen and increases the intake of carbon-dioxide, and you end up rebreathing your viral and bacterial load. The only person to make decisions about my health, IS ME.

5
zabbers 5 points ago +5 / -0

I agree with your point in principal, but the fact is we don't live in a Libertarian paradise and business have certain obligations to the public. They can't deny service freely.
