Ballots are being printed already. Replacing a candidate would mean court battles, something that would be very risky for the dems. What if one state had a Harris option on the ballot, another had a Biden option (because there are legal deadlines for getting on the ballot)?
I think there is a strong argument that a vote for Biden is not the same as a vote for Harris. This would effectively split the vote, possibly making it impossible for democrats to win based solely on how many states have Biden v Kamala on the ballots.

If it really goes to the SCOTUS, it will definitely be a 4-4 split, then the case would be sent to a lower court and probably handled by some corrupt judge that the dems planted there in advance. Better fill that seat to prevent this nightmare scenario.
