Ironically, there are techniques to make a city self sustaining, such as hydroponics facilities and rooftop/terrace farming. The reason we don't do so right now is because it's just not economically viable, as mass rural farming is vastly more efficient than the 'city methods'.
Yeah the real issue is that not enough people who live in urban areas want to take the time and effort necessary to upkeep even a small garden. I live in the burbs, we have a decent sized garden, and its work on top of whatever job you have. You can't just get home from the office, make a sustainable Soy-Smoothie, smoke a ton of pot and shitpost to ChapoTraphouse for 8 hours. Gardening takes attentiveness, planning and time every day. These shmucks don't have what it takes on top of it being far less cost effective than rural farming.

Farms have been consolidated (it's not just black farmers who have dropped in numbers massively) and it's amazing how little of our population farms now. We did have a small return to farming with victory gardens during WWII, but that's long over now.

I'm assuming they were using it to keep weeds down. You cut holes in it where you put your plants so that there are no weeds in between the plantings. That alone wasn't a completely terrible idea, but there was no way that a garden that small would made enough produce for more than a couple of people. Even then, it would be months before anything was edible.
Ideally, you would put the cardboard down where you want to plant, wet it, then let it kill off the weeds/grass and naturally compost in the soil over the fall/winter so that it's ready for spring planting.

Too many people here overestimate the support our side we would have in a civil war and the end results. Russia and China would immediately start looking for a way to take us over if civil war broke out and that would put things in a new perspective. Other countries are not going to let that happen and would support the side they believe can bring stability the fastest and give how Trump is running on a 50/50 approval rating there is no telling which side that would be.

Russia is a weak country militarily, as shown by the Battle of Khasham, where 40 US troops fought against an entire armored division of Russian "mercenaries" (actually Russian army soldiers), and the US forces emerged without so much as a paper cut while the Russian side received 100% casualties (every soldier either wounded or killed) and all but 2 of the Russian vehicles were destroyed.
One is a ex-Communist nation still suffering the aftereffects of those decades of corruption and economic rot, while the other is a Communist nation still reeling from their own failed social-engineering policies while their "army" hasn't fought against any non-Chinese-citizen target since Nixon and/or Carter were in the White House.
Couldn't the same be said about our army since we barley use any of it in the Middle East? Neither side has an army with experience fighting a true modern day war with drones, missiles, and other new weapons. Fighting terrorists is in no way comparable to fighting a fully prepared army.
I just showed you how our two largest enemies, Russia and China, are both completely incapable of fighting with America's armed forces (the Battle of Khasham only happened in FEBRUARY 2018, about 2.5 years ago). Even if we faced them in battle, their weak morale (from either "having such a massive defeat in their recent history" or "being spoiled rotten") means that they wouldn't last long under a heavy assault.
There is plenty of evidence in Syria that Russia was helping various Syrian terrorist groups as part of an effort to prop up Assad while undermining the US forces in the area, so we already have extensive experience combating both their weapons and their tactics, as well as thorough experience defeating their troops.
Many of the next-largest armies (such as India, Japan, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Britain, etc.) are our allies, often with long histories opposing Russia and/or China.
Our troops don't need to all directly experience combat if we can have the combat veterans share their knowledge with the rest of the army, letting us get rid of what doesn't work and focus on what does.
And all that's not even mentioning the "Third Revolution in Military Affairs", or "3RMA", that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has developed over the past few decades, and shared with us within the last ~3-4 years (as shown by the Marine Corps ditching their tank division for smaller Special-Ops teams that are more universally-capable), and shared with our other allies at some unknown time (as shown by India following a similar change in tactics to the GCC and the USA).
This is assuming they don't wait until we weaken ourselves so much we cannot fight back against an invasion. China can for sure beat us if we are divided as their military is on par with ours.
China relies on all of our businesses to operate as a county. They're a pimple on our ass. If we start fighting they stop getting money. If they really want to cross the ocean to be welcomed to our air force and navy they're more than welcome. They would sink in the water before they ever made it on land.

Ironically, there are techniques to make a city self sustaining, such as hydroponics facilities and rooftop/terrace farming. The reason we don't do so right now is because it's just not economically viable, as mass rural farming is vastly more efficient than the 'city methods'.
Yeah the real issue is that not enough people who live in urban areas want to take the time and effort necessary to upkeep even a small garden. I live in the burbs, we have a decent sized garden, and its work on top of whatever job you have. You can't just get home from the office, make a sustainable Soy-Smoothie, smoke a ton of pot and shitpost to ChapoTraphouse for 8 hours. Gardening takes attentiveness, planning and time every day. These shmucks don't have what it takes on top of it being far less cost effective than rural farming.

I'm assuming they were using it to keep weeds down. You cut holes in it where you put your plants so that there are no weeds in between the plantings. That alone wasn't a completely terrible idea, but there was no way that a garden that small would made enough produce for more than a couple of people. Even then, it would be months before anything was edible.
Ideally, you would put the cardboard down where you want to plant, wet it, then let it kill off the weeds/grass and naturally compost in the soil over the fall/winter so that it's ready for spring planting.

How to siege a city via 2 objectives:
Crash/disable 18wheelers in a way to block the main highways in and out of the city, preferably over any major bridges or roads that don't have frontage streets. Use a handful of snipers to discourage anyone trying to clear the obstruction.

That was more than enough to make him realize that these assholes are def. not fucking around, and the next day over the phone I got a ton of questions about how one goes about buying a firearm, what kind to buy, where to get one, etc.)

Too many people here overestimate the support our side we would have in a civil war and the end results. Russia and China would immediately start looking for a way to take us over if civil war broke out and that would put things in a new perspective. Other countries are not going to let that happen and would support the side they believe can bring stability the fastest and give how Trump is running on a 50/50 approval rating there is no telling which side that would be.
So what's the alternative?
This house cannot stand divided. And you know they're not going to leave us alone. So with an enemy who will not stop until every last one of us is destroyed what is your alternative to war?
Do you just expect us to roll over and die?
Russia is a weak country militarily, as shown by the Battle of Khasham, where 40 US troops fought against an entire armored division of Russian "mercenaries" (actually Russian army soldiers), and the US forces emerged without so much as a paper cut while the Russian side received 100% casualties (every soldier either wounded or killed) and all but 2 of the Russian vehicles were destroyed.
Meanwhile, China is still suffering from their One Child policy under Mao, with most of their troops being single-children who were spoiled rotten by their parents, turning them into "wimps, sissies, and little emperors", and the entire army as a whole having no combat experience since a brief foray into the Vietnam War in the 1970s.
One is a ex-Communist nation still suffering the aftereffects of those decades of corruption and economic rot, while the other is a Communist nation still reeling from their own failed social-engineering policies while their "army" hasn't fought against any non-Chinese-citizen target since Nixon and/or Carter were in the White House.
Couldn't the same be said about our army since we barley use any of it in the Middle East? Neither side has an army with experience fighting a true modern day war with drones, missiles, and other new weapons. Fighting terrorists is in no way comparable to fighting a fully prepared army.
What "fully prepared army" are we fighting?
I just showed you how our two largest enemies, Russia and China, are both completely incapable of fighting with America's armed forces (the Battle of Khasham only happened in FEBRUARY 2018, about 2.5 years ago). Even if we faced them in battle, their weak morale (from either "having such a massive defeat in their recent history" or "being spoiled rotten") means that they wouldn't last long under a heavy assault.
There is plenty of evidence in Syria that Russia was helping various Syrian terrorist groups as part of an effort to prop up Assad while undermining the US forces in the area, so we already have extensive experience combating both their weapons and their tactics, as well as thorough experience defeating their troops.
Many of the next-largest armies (such as India, Japan, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Britain, etc.) are our allies, often with long histories opposing Russia and/or China.
Our troops don't need to all directly experience combat if we can have the combat veterans share their knowledge with the rest of the army, letting us get rid of what doesn't work and focus on what does.
And all that's not even mentioning the "Third Revolution in Military Affairs", or "3RMA", that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has developed over the past few decades, and shared with us within the last ~3-4 years (as shown by the Marine Corps ditching their tank division for smaller Special-Ops teams that are more universally-capable), and shared with our other allies at some unknown time (as shown by India following a similar change in tactics to the GCC and the USA).
I don't think either of those countries wants us to redirect all of our anger on a common enemy.
This is assuming they don't wait until we weaken ourselves so much we cannot fight back against an invasion. China can for sure beat us if we are divided as their military is on par with ours.
China relies on all of our businesses to operate as a county. They're a pimple on our ass. If we start fighting they stop getting money. If they really want to cross the ocean to be welcomed to our air force and navy they're more than welcome. They would sink in the water before they ever made it on land.

I don't up vote a lot here, but this gave me a 0445 Monday morning chuckle.
I hate how everyone talks about civil war so casually. War is horrible, and killing people who you potentially know is a million times worse. Most people have never actually seen death, let alone taken someone's life. We should be doing everything in our power to move closer to reconicilliation than open warfare, and yet we're not.
It's painfully obvious everyone is in way over their heads with their rhetoric. I mean shit, that was extremely obvious when Kenosha Kyle shot 3 people. He blasted the first, was assaulted by a mob, shot two more, and everyone surrendered. He literally walked to his mom's car and went home, unopposed. It took 3 victims to go from "KILL HIM" to "FUCKING RUN!!"
