I like Putin.

He's a strong leader and the Russian people appear to appreciate him.

I don't like him, because I know he'd screw over the US in any way he could. But I do respect him, because he is a very strong leader, and does what he can to solidify his country and its power.

We are still their main roadblock into getting a good foothold on a solid, warm-water port. I'm not sure if they're completely satisfied with Sevastopol and Konigsburg (Kaliningrad now), but given Putin was willing to threaten open war over a break in supply lines between Latika, Syria and themselves (that's where a lot of their shipping comes in) I think they're still looking for a land grab. And Putin is the type of leader to take a huge chunk of land from another country to strengthen his nation. I think with a lot of hard diplomatic work they would make extremely strong allies, but since we are protecting a lot of countries Putin could take a port from, don't count out the possibility of them taking covert action to screw us over. Maybe if we make a deal to give them a chunk of Manchuria, so Russia nestles around the top of North Korea down to Dalian in exchange for helping us screw over China. I can't help but think if Putin were willing to play ball, Trump would have made agreements with him already. Sorry if this is a bit rambling.
