I'm also a Californian. Well, born in Southern US but came as a teen in 1980. Though recently living with relatives out of state, my driver's license, credit union, telecommute job, and mail services address are still California. I wanted to try again to vote out the California swamp. But without a physical address right now, just mail services address, California denied my voting re-registration. (Had I put down D instead of R, I'm sure I would've been approved.) So ended up having to register in relative's state for this year.

I'll never forget about 20+ years ago while volunteering as a church camp counselor in the mountains. Vegetation over 4 ft tall all along the path to the newly-constructed, luxurious cabins. Cabins built on stilts to protect the vegetation. There were signs warning of fines by the state if anyone damaged the vegetation, such as walking on it or picking its wildflowers. They did allow concrete stepping stones to get to the cabin steps. Otherwise it was a sea of vegetation for our "yard" and under the cabins.
