My family took extremely American names when they arrived a long time ago and we never looked back. We wanted to be Americans. If I took my mom’s last name, I’d be mistaken for a Caucasian individual my name is so Americanized. I understand wanting to hang on to your heritage (maybe have a more exotic middle name or adopt an American nickname), but we’re supposed to integrate at the same time.
If it's NY or it's the FBI, I immediately suspect the opposite of what is reported. In this case, it's both.

In the case of this widely publicized Chinese NYPD officer, I bet you he was someone who got his family out, believes in America, and the CCP reached out to their agents in the FBI to make an example out of him. Good smoke screen for the real CCP agents, and makes America feel like they are safer.
Most NYPD officers are strongly pro-American and conservative. The Chinese agent was one of the exceptions who are frauds who never deserved his badge.
