Obama never got his SCOTUS pick because the senate refused to confirm it.
It's their right to do so.
However, it's important to note that Obama was never denied (or threatened with impeachment) from selecting his recommended pick for the senate to vote on.
Trump gets to nominate someone.
Period
Whether or not that person gets confirmed is up to the senate.
This is the real answer that so many overlook. The Senate as part of Congress is a separate and coequal branch of the government. They are not required to do what the President says, and they are not required to not do what the President says. They can do whatever the hell they want within the confines of their Constitutional authority and the President, any President, can't tell them shit. The President puts forth a nominee and his role stops right there. From that point the Senate can do what it wants with that. Hold hearings, or not. Vote, or not. Confirm, or not. It just so happened to be that when Hussein was in power, the Republicans controlled the Senate and didn't want to do what Hussein wanted, as was their right. Now that Trump is President, the Senate does want to confirm his nominee, as is also their right. This would be just as true if Hillary had won and the Democrats controlled the Senate now.
The Left keeps jerking around about "what about in __ year when this happened, you have to do the same!" and some on the right throw back "well no, because what about in this other ___ year, that's the previous standard"
It's all missing the point. The standard is the Senate does what it wants, and what it wants is based on which party is in charge. That's it. That's the standard. Sometimes it will mean they want to do what the President also wants, sometimes it will mean the opposite.
Congress and the White House are not coequal branches of government. The Constitution and other contemporary writings undeniably prove that Congress was designed to be supreme over the executive and judiciary. The gradual erosion of Congress' power over the past century is what is destroying our republic. Never forget that.
I guess they must have missed the whole Russia investigation, impeachment bullshit, Obamacare scumbaggery and how completely slimy and corrupt Obama's Senate and presidential campaigns were and how dishonest everything about his administration was.
Isn't it also important to point out that the Democrats changed the rules so it no longer takes a super majority for the nuclear option? Originally this did not include scotus picks or something but the Republicans changed it by using that very thing to push Gorsuch through. I think. It's how I understand it anyways please someone correct me.
One thing that no one mentions is, at the time Obama nominated Garland, Obama was a lame duck. He was not on the ballot in the upcoming election. For that reason there is a much stronger case for delaying the confirmation hearings.
They do know the definitions. They just know that the low info voters probably wonβt. If they get that person to connect lame duck to Trump then they wonβt get that the situations are different.
It is then much more difficult to get someone to change a mind already made up than it is to initially βeducateβ them.
Unfortunately I think itβs worse than that. I think they do really consider him a lame duck. I think they have 100% faith in their mail in voter fraud scheme and if they keep screaming at the top of their lungs they believe people will just accept whatever they put in front of us.
if trump doesn't win we're going to put everyone on governments heads on sticks because id rather do that then starve to desth under socialism or have my head chopped off by open borders terrorists, or be killed because of my skin color by some facist "antifacists"
Remember the tsunami Mario Cuomo created in 2000 saying GWB didn't have "gravitas"? Good Lord, it was almost as bad as "BLM" or coronavirus today. Every damn lefty journalist and panel every single segment for a month, they absolutely would not shut up about "gravitas." I wished I could have reached through the television screen and punch them in the mouth.
And to be honest even that doesn't matter, all that matters from and executive point of view is who they nominate. That is where it ends.
If the senate was Dem controlled in 2016, then Obama's appointment would have been confirmed, but they weren't in control and that is why. No other reason than the senate can vote yay or nay as they please
Yes but Republicans shot themselves in the foot when in 2016 they justifiedthat they don't accept obama's choice... they should've phrased it differently: "we think that since Obongo can NOT serve another term, the new president should...etc". They left themselves wide open.
They way they phrased it was bad.
More so to my knowledge they didn't even perform the hearing, which was kinda shitty.
I mean, end of the line it's true that the senate gets to decide, but let's not act like Reps played their cards right.
democrats messed up, that does not mean reps didn't. their wording on the justification was bad, no foresight on what could happen. were they in their right to do it? yes, but still bad justification.
This is what disgusts me the most. Itβs not βletβs wait until after the electionβ, itβs βletβs wait until we have our new presidentβ as if itβs a done deal.
Been noticing that phrase "installed" a lot recently. It's usually either a sign of a glowie or an NPC parroting what they've read because they can't think for themselves.
Either way it's freaky how they parrot the same terminology.
The whole argument was that the American people picked a Republican congress in 2014 even though they had picked a D president in 2012. Since both branches were in control by different parties and the D president was on his way out, it doesn't even apply to now.
Dems will beg you to play by the rules, then ignore them entirely when it is their shot. Look at the riots for a perfect example.
Rioters antagonize cops, tale away their tools, threaten them, when cops defend themselves, it's "wtf wtf brutality"
Strawman argument. We are playing by the rules. They are lying about what the rules are. If they had the votes they would have voted. If they did not nominate a hard left pro abortion candidate the senate might have passed him.
This is called a straw man argument. The Republicans did not vote because of respect for elections or gave a damn about the people no matter what anyone said.
They did it because they controlled the senate. Listen to Mitch speech yesterday starting at minute 12, it sums up what he said in 2007, 2016 and now.
Let them keep pretending that politics is an honorable game.
It's literally war minus the guns for the most part. Seize opportunity at every possible opportunity or you're effectively offering your lubed ass as a gift.
I think he has already decided on Lagoa, is trying to head-fake them with Barrett, and is only waiting until the weekend because he wants to make the announcement in Miami, where's he's already scheduled to visit.
Honestly, we just need another Pro 2A justice. Then SCOTUS can finally take up these case and all the proga bullshit gun legislation will be thrown out. Roberts can be the fucking cuck he is and side with Kaegan and Soytamayor. Thatβs the only reasons those cases wonβt get brought up even though their Is a majority right now. Roberts is to fucking unreliable.
It's not even her fucking seat. It's the people's seat. And the people voted for Trump and a Republican majority in the Senate. That should be the end of the fucking conversation.
They keep saying installed and I'm pretty sure they know that isn't how presidents are put in. Presidents are elected and the left is projecting their authoritarianism.
If we "wait until a new president is installed" then we're gonna be waiting 4.5 years. That's a very long time for a Supreme Court vacancy to be left open.
In the early 1800s there were some presidents that nominated a new SC pick the day before they left office and they were confirmed the day of the inauguration of the new president.
I tried to visit r/politics yesterday, which I never do. It blew my mind that it wasn't even about politics. It was just Donald Trump with no productive conversation on the first couple of pages. I had to get out of there because of the cringe.
Last I checked, the Constitution doesn't care about leftist's feelings, nor Ruth Bader Ginsberg's so-called "dying wish". Nowhere in that document are either of these two phrases.
The President gets to make his nomination, the Senate gets to vote on confirmation, and there is no filibuster (thanks Obama and Reid!).
Life is full of disappointments lefties; better get used to it.
It's just a small wish ....it's not too much to ask to just give the lefty fascists even more power to try and steal the election .... Jesus christ what a fucktard. That'd be like giving your enemy the high ground in a battle or else they'll call you a meanie. Fuck that , we're taking an extra queen to checkmate their asses
There is no sentimental reason to wait. Sentimentality and decorum are not requisites. Fulfilling the wishes of the voters whom put you in power and will keep you there is. SCJ now. Ruths body has been worm food for six months. Poor worms.
Fuck this last wish bullshit. When Kennedy retired his wish was that Kavanaugh would replace him. I donβt remember a single democrat trying to honor that wish. They tried to destroy Kavanaugh.
A good section of these normie shitlibs/reddit intellectuals are COMPLETE idiots when it comes to how our government works. They are literally baby brained retards who dont know or care what the functions of each branch of government is, they just see the world as a child through the lens of YA fiction which is why they can never talk about politics without brining up Harry Potter or The Hunger Games. They dont want a separation of power, they want a big cuddly teddy bear to be the dictator of America
Also fuck you to these lefties for the scenario you think you set up. If the only reason you have to deny someone a Supreme Court nomination is that they are unqualified, then why did only three (3!) democrat Senators agree with Gorsuch's nomination? Why did only 1! vote for Kavanaugh's nomination.
Don't tell me you think they are unqualified, they were the most qualified candidates that could have been nominated.
So really, the Democrats would've done the same thing: straight party line to deny a candidate when they had the Senate and votes.
They take something monumental like stripping your rights and say it's 'Such a Small Ask'..
Then they refuse to converse/debate further and quickly start demanding you comply [or else].
If it was SO SMALL, they would be able to leave it alone, but they can't. You MUST comply, else their whole charade collapses. It's not so Small, it's essential to their plan.
It's funny to see all this pretending. We all know the reason is they don't want more conservative SCOTUS and they're so afraid of us stopping the mutilation of innocent babies. That would just be horrific for them if we stop slaughtering a few thousand of them every day. How would they live with themselves without all the bloodshed?
It's not about "How close is it to the election"
It's about who controls the senate.
Obama never got his SCOTUS pick because the senate refused to confirm it.
It's their right to do so.
However, it's important to note that Obama was never denied (or threatened with impeachment) from selecting his recommended pick for the senate to vote on.

Scalia died under extremely suspicious circumstances.
A pillow over his face?
Wetworks in the vineyard.
Great explanation, Ragnar!
Each branch has one job. Let them do it and let the chips fall where they may!
Congress and the White House are not coequal branches of government. The Constitution and other contemporary writings undeniably prove that Congress was designed to be supreme over the executive and judiciary. The gradual erosion of Congress' power over the past century is what is destroying our republic. Never forget that.
This is very interesting, do you have any links so I can read more?
edit: not the Constitution obv, just the other writings
This is more or less what I was expecting Trump to say.
End presser.
So racism?
That joke of a commenter NooThropics later posted
Dems possess or display moral fiber???? Delusional beyond description.
I guess they must have missed the whole Russia investigation, impeachment bullshit, Obamacare scumbaggery and how completely slimy and corrupt Obama's Senate and presidential campaigns were and how dishonest everything about his administration was.
They really think they're playing "fair and square" and 100% "clean?" LOL they're so fucking delusional.
Then again, they also think they're saving America from Trump. Why would they want to save a country they hate?
Obama was trying to replace Scalia.
Scalia died under extremely suspicious circumstances.

Thank you Harry Reid.
One thing that no one mentions is, at the time Obama nominated Garland, Obama was a lame duck. He was not on the ballot in the upcoming election. For that reason there is a much stronger case for delaying the confirmation hearings.
have you noticed the MSM trying to label Trump as "lame duck" now? Georgie Step did it just the other day.
Yes and I thought that was hilarious. They just toss around buzzwords not even knowing the definitions.
They do know the definitions. They just know that the low info voters probably wonβt. If they get that person to connect lame duck to Trump then they wonβt get that the situations are different.
It is then much more difficult to get someone to change a mind already made up than it is to initially βeducateβ them.

No you aren't. If the election appears to have been rigged, we are going to peacefully mobilize and root out the fraud.
I have every confidence that the FBI and DOJ will actively help our cause and root out that corruption.
HAHAHAHAHA
Remember the tsunami Mario Cuomo created in 2000 saying GWB didn't have "gravitas"? Good Lord, it was almost as bad as "BLM" or coronavirus today. Not voting for a 2nd RBG to replace Scalia in 2016 as a Republican Senate is a legislative check on the executive branch. Very simple.
All the democrat leaders are on record in 2013 and 2016 supporting the very thing Trump is pushing for. That's who really shot themselves in the foot.
you miss my point.
democrats messed up, that does not mean reps didn't. their wording on the justification was bad, no foresight on what could happen. were they in their right to do it? yes, but still bad justification.
Notice the language that they are trying to get normalized "New President is installed"
So we won't reelect the president we will have a new president installed
This is what disgusts me the most. Itβs not βletβs wait until after the electionβ, itβs βletβs wait until we have our new presidentβ as if itβs a done deal.
Of course Orange Man will lose!
Specifically the word "installed". Even if Trump loses, the President is not INSTALLED.
They are if its a banana republic. Lets watch and see what we are!
Been noticing that phrase "installed" a lot recently. It's usually either a sign of a glowie or an NPC parroting what they've read because they can't think for themselves.
Either way it's freaky how they parrot the same terminology.
I like how they refer to βstandardsβ as if not doing something one time is suddenly more important than the constitution!!
The whole argument was that the American people picked a Republican congress in 2014 even though they had picked a D president in 2012. Since both branches were in control by different parties and the D president was on his way out, it doesn't even apply to now.

I'm SICK of this notion that it's RBG's SEAT.
IT IS NOT HER SEAT
IT IS THE PEOPLES SEAT
HER REQUEST DEBASES HER LEGACY AND IS SHAMEFUL
ITS NOT EVEN TRUMP'S SEAT
ITS THE PEOPLES SEAT
AND TRUMPS JOB IS TO FILL THE PEOPLES SEAT
"Standards" as far as they're concerned are just rhetorical tools to use against the Right. They don't actually have any themselves.
Their only standard is power and control for Democrats.
This is called a straw man argument. The Republicans did not vote because of respect for elections or gave a damn about the people no matter what anyone said.
They did it because they controlled the senate. Listen to Mitch speech yesterday starting at minute 12, it sums up what he said in 2007, 2016 and now.

It's literally war minus the guns for the most part. Seize opportunity at every possible opportunity or you're effectively offering your lubed ass as a gift.
Exactly.
Crush and destroy. Exercise all power with no mercy. Ram it through.
Democrats are and have always been the dirtiest fighting, most underhanded, backstabbing fuckers in our country's history.
The commies are trying to normalize installing a President.
We elect a President.
The former Soviet Union installed their Premiers.
Trump should not wait until this weekend. He needs to get out in front of their OODA loop.
I think he has already decided on Lagoa, is trying to head-fake them with Barrett, and is only waiting until the weekend because he wants to make the announcement in Miami, where's he's already scheduled to visit.
I don't want a weak willed woman who is going to get soft. I want a white man.
White males only. Cry all you want. I play for my team.
Honestly, we just need another Pro 2A justice. Then SCOTUS can finally take up these case and all the proga bullshit gun legislation will be thrown out. He's waiting for RBG to be buried first (Thursday). In an election year the optics of doing it beforehand could seriously hurt him.
"Installed"
Her seat isnt even cold waaahhhh. RBG was nominated and confirmed in 42 days.
Her seat has been cold for years
It's not even her fucking seat.
They're doing a horrible job at not saying "Please Let Joe Biden Pick the next SCJ"
I think we should "install" president Trump for life.
Emperor Trump. I mean, why not? Out of respect for them?
There it is again, "installed", mask is slipping.
In the early 1800s there were some presidents that nominated a new SC pick the day before they left office and they were confirmed the day of the inauguration of the new president.
It's their only set of standards.
They only have one standard: Democrat power and control.
Everything they do and every position they take conforms to that standard.
She was in the hospital regularly & wouldn't retire though likely wealthy. She was on a powertrip. Good riddance.
βSuch a small thingβ fuck you, itβs absolutely not a small thing.
They're liars and sophists. Never listen to them.
Waiting for a new President leaves the seat empty over four years.
InstallPresident.exe
its not even true, not verifiable not even news really, total hearsay false story to try to sway public opinion.
ABC Fake News reported today that her granddaughter claims to have recorded her final statement containing her dying wish.
She should play it or STFU.
Either way, dying wishes aren't provided for in the Constitution, so they can fuck right off.
I tried to visit r/politics yesterday, which I never do. It blew my mind that it wasn't even about politics. It was just Donald Trump with no productive conversation on the first couple of pages. I had to get out of there because of the cringe.

Would these clowns would have entertained, for even a moment, the notion of honoring a last wish from Justice Scalia?
It's just a small wish ....it's not too much to ask to just give the lefty fascists even more power to try and steal the election .... Jesus christ what a fucktard. That'd be like giving your enemy the high ground in a battle or else they'll call you a meanie. Fuck that , we're taking an extra queen to checkmate their asses
"not much to ask" bitch it's EVERYTHING to ask. We elect our senators SPECIFICALLY to confirm justices when this sort of opportunity arises.
waah it's such a small thing to ask for a final wish to ignore the constitution waaaaaaaaaaah
There is no sentimental reason to wait. Sentimentality and decorum are not requisites. Fulfilling the wishes of the voters whom put you in power and will keep you there is. SCJ now. Ruths body has been worm food for six months. Poor worms.

If they agree with it, there is no task to large for them to call a small task.
I heard some lady(?) screeching at trump supporters last night when leaving the rally that "IT'S HER DYING WISH!!"
I wish my phone wasn't dead, or else I would've recorded it. I've never heard someone REEEEE like that in real life before
I wish I was taller
I wish I was a baller
The rudest people on earth want sympathy from us.
Why do these morons think her wishes matter?
Last wishes donβt mean shit to something you donβt own!!!
How are people not making the only relevant point? Do you have the votes, or do you not? Nothing else matters.
EDIT: Reading this thread, indeed the pedes understand
Toddlers talking politics.
well that certainly is interesting about the Chief Justice
The party of burning the consitution trying to tell us about the consitution. Funny.
I know democrats that think theyre cold hard constitutionalists while they support abortion and nonexistant "common sense gun control"
WOMP WOMP
I'm not sick of winning, how about you guys?
It's funny to see all this pretending. We all know the reason is they don't want more conservative SCOTUS and they're so afraid of us stopping the mutilation of innocent babies.
