As a Southern woman I have always reached out and shaken hands with others It just feels weird not to do that now. I still say Thank you Sir to young men in stores etc...)
Hopefully some people are washing their hands. A lot of parents are waking up to see how pathetic their schools are. Celebrities are worthless as are sports.
People staying home when they're sick with a real cold or flu would be a welcome long term change for me. That was supposed to be standard procedure anyway, but people never took it seriously.
Being in an office when no part of your job actually requires it. I've commuted about an hour and a half round trip for the last 5 years to sit down at a desk communicate over phone and video conference with people in a different state than me. There was never a point to it, other than it was the expectation. I think commercial office space is going to take a huge hit over the next several years as telecommuting becomes the norm rather than the exception.
That 1.5 hour commute almost equals an additional work day each week.. Now I get to be with my family instead of driving.
Honestly? A lot of businesses switching from onsite working to Working from home. I live as a Caretaker for my parents, and when I would have to leave for work, my dad would have to help take care of mom, but now that I can be at home, I can take care of both of them.
It's also why I have to take the virus seriously, even if I think it's a Plandemic. Because I don't want my parents getting it.
Then there's the opposite end of the spectrum, the sudden death grip of doom. It's like being in the finals of a hand crushing contest that you don't remember entering.
Stopped lurking and made an account just to say this:
You may be right 99% of the time, but I hated shaking hands and wanted to wear a mask in crowded spaces long before this pandemic. I only went along with social conventions to avoid embarassing people or hurting my career. I am young enough not to worry about getting sick, but I am never going to shake a hand again because I never liked to. I especially hated hugs from strangers and any other violation of personal space.
I am likely going to keep wearing my nice charcoal filter mask with a vent valve, originally sold to protect against air pollution, long after coronavirus is gone. I'm only worried that people will think I'm some sort of weird liberal instead of an anti-social germophobe. So keep an open mind.
Sorry, bro, but anti social germaphobe is as much of a mental illness as liberalism in a society. You can't be antisocial and also a functional member of society and everyone is still going to judge you, and rightfully so. It won't be a moral judgment, but you are basically advertising to the world that you are unable to overcome your mental problems. Our side will continue to welcome you and discuss the world with you, but you have to understand that you will always be an outsider anywhere you go. One of the defining aspects of being a conservative is that we accept reality and deal with the consequences of our decisions rather than try to force the world to bend over for us.
If you are truly concerned about people thinking you're a commie instead of just paranoid, you can always wear a MAGA mask, or flag, or thin blue line, or gadsden, or molon label, etc.
I know, I am eccentric and keep to myself other than doing what I have to to function in society (which I do pretty well, professionally). Shaking hands used to be one of those things I forced myself to do, but is now something that I'll be able to get away with avoiding now and just be a little weird to most people, not career-endingly weird. I'm not paranoid, I don't worry about getting sick I just don't like other people and their germs. For what it's worth I've actually heard Trump is a slight germophobe and used to put people off sometimes by using hand sanitizer right after shaking hands.
I still wish everyone was free to choose not to wear a mask and do whatever the hell else they want to, though. That's why I replied, so you and others know that some of the people you might judge harshly and write off at first glance are actually on your side.
I think you might be misunderstanding what I meant. I don't judge people's politics by their handshake. I judge them as a person.
If you aren't willing to shake my hand it's because you're afraid, whether it's afraid of covid because you're gullible or afraid of any germs at all because you have a phobia or whatever. I don't want to associate with people who are afraid of life. I would say no offense, but I don't really think you would mind me not wanting to be around you anyway, lol.
I live in a blue town where you see people in their masks biking, walking up and down the street, having socially distanced picnics, it’s crazy. Almost everyone is a sheep. It is rare for me to see someone without a mask, but when I do, we always smile and see each other. About a month ago I got into a conversation with a man on the street, and when we shook hands, we remarked how amazingly good it felt, such a small thing, to just interact like normal human beings.
All this fear propaganda is incredibly psychologically damaging. Humans are a social animal. We NEED to shake hands and see each other’s faces.
I miss seeing what women look like, besides their eyeballs. I guess the masks are a good thing for some though, those are usually the ones most vocal about wearing them too.
I never wear masks. I'm always expecting an employee to harass me about it, but they always seem so glad just to see another person's face. You can see at least mentally they long for that normalcy. These governors are terrorists.
its part of the brainwashing: make people afraid of each other. this is a major global terror attack. there are so many dead people right now with family that have no idea what actually killed them. was it the covid that killed grandpa jim?! or was it the stage 4 cancer and being 93 years old? they'll never know for sure. but what they do know is that covid 19 the invisible totally random and not artificially engineered virus in a chinese laboratory and shipped out to the entire world has a whopping, deadly chance of .002% of killing them. so they're going to wear their slave masks like good little sheep and avoid touching others and stay 6 feet apart and you bet they'll be sure to call the thought police if anyone has the gall to act like a normal fucking person in these abnormal times. they're ready to wear these pieces of cotton over their faces for the rest of their lives, and they'll viciously attack anyone that DARES try to return to any kind of normalcy.
I refuse to stop shaking hands. Most people will shake my hand when I extend it. If they don’t, we both know the shame they feel. And they feel it. They may not admit it but they feel it.
Father of daughter here... if boy refuses to shake my hand firmly (and converse) he is summarily dismissed from the house. My daughter now understands why and appreciates this.
Where I grew up, the father would shake your hand with his right hand. At the same time, he’d use his left hand to grab around the back your right elbow. You’ve seen people shake like this. It looks like a very warm way to shake hands.
Later, I learned this custom was an old way for the dad to check and see if you had syphilis: the dad would be feeling around your elbow for swollen lymph glands.
Going to play Devil’s Advocate here because I come from a professional kitchen background. In some situations, like kitchen work or maybe medical, I can see how a fist bump or elbow dap is much more sanitary than a handshake.
That said, if I’m not in a work environment; I’m shaking hands.
Yeah I know what you mean. My dad was the same way about some guys. He ended up being so right about one in particular. I was so mad at him for awhile but when I got out of college and realized that dad only wanted the best for me. He died at 55 and if only I could tell him now...Dad you were so right...:(
I went to my neighbor's Free Will Baptist church when mine was pandemic closed. Before the Trump Tulsa Rally and after and her pastor shook my hand every time!
I went to a fundraiser for a Republican Senate candidate last week held at a rich supporter's home. 75-100 people were there. Everyone shook hands and I saw only one mask. MAGA!
I was getting my hair cut in NC in 2014 and Pat McCrory (NC governor at the time) came in on a political trip. He walked over and said, "Let me elbow bump you, I'm a bit sick." I replied, "You can shake my hand," and we did. I look back now after all this corona bullshit and smile about it.
I despise the term the “new normal”. Screw that. Handshakes will never go away. No one is forcing you to shake hands but if your afraid wash your damn hands. It is long past time to start pushing back on some of the nonsense pushed by the unelected bureaucrats.
Exactly. My dad said the same thing, and not only that, but it made me shake people's hands like it matters! No limp, insipid little flower petal handshakes for me, as people expect from women unfortunately.
I only give elbow bumps when I'm working on the line (I work at a Quik-serv restaurant) and want to give a high-five but can't because I'm wearing gloves and the other party isn't (or vice-versa).
That being said (and somewhat unrelated to the topic), the chain I work at has started to move away from our previous interpersonal-style setups to a more closed-off, grab-and-go-type model. I don't really recall if it was influenced by corona or if it just accelerated the change at all, but I will really dislike the loss of being able to personally serve a customer their food for dine-ins, or personally going up and asking how they're doing right at the table instead of having them come to get it themselves or needing to inquire from what feels like across the room due to social distancing. I think some stores in the future may not even have dine-in space at all, or very few, and it saddens me.
Some perspective for all you young people. When I was growing up in the NE in the 50’s handshakes were a thing between men. I am quite happy that wearing purple nitrile gloves are in vogue because now I am in fashion for once. But I don’t ever wear a mask because I prefer breathing the air of freedom. And I still miss my girdle.
It never left around here (midwest).
same, never went away where I am.
people, it was a fake pandemic. things will go back to normal. looks like there might be some good longterm changes though.
From the South, still here, always will be.
As a Southern woman I have always reached out and shaken hands with others It just feels weird not to do that now. I still say Thank you Sir to young men in stores etc...)
Southern man here, too old to stop at this point. I'm not insulted if others would rather not, but I'm still going to extend my hand.
What long-term changes do you think are positive? (Serious question, not an attack.)

Architecture and design have gone hand-in-hand with pandemics for quite a while now.
Slums and public spaces are maintained by public funds due to the plague.
Streets were widened, indoor plumbing added. (Yellow fever)
Large indoor spaces with lots of open air. (Tuberculosis)
Everything from furniture to fixtures have become "less-ornate", because highly ornamental, intricate designs are difficult to clean.
What changes will COVID19 usher in?
I'm guessing a lot more contactless stuff.
Hotel elevators where you tap a room key and it brings you to your floor, rather than tapping a room key then pressing a button.
Crosswalks without buttons.
Most chain restaurants already support app payments for grab-and-go orders.
Lots of these things already exist, but the impetus to invest in them has not.
I judge someone who refuses to shake hands even more harshly than someone who shakes like a wet dishrag.
I like to call it the dead fish.
Then there's the opposite end of the spectrum, the sudden death grip of doom. It's like being in the finals of a hand crushing contest that you don't remember entering.
Those guys always end up being real weird.
Now that I think of it, one of my best friends has a dead fish handshake. He's gay though, so I figure it's just him being girly, lol.
dead fishrag

I have started mocking people for their outside masks and it feels good.
I’m in the Midwest and can confirm; almost everyone shakes hands here still
I never stopped, but it is becoming a straight alpha Chad move.
It used to be you judged a man by the strength of his handshake.
Now the simple alpha act of offering your hand for a shake immediately separates the Chads from the Soy who refuse to shake.
its part of the brainwashing: make people afraid of each other. this is a major global terror attack. there are so many dead people right now with family that have no idea what actually killed them. was it the covid that killed grandpa jim?! or was it the stage 4 cancer and being 93 years old? they'll never know for sure. but what they do know is that covid 19 the invisible totally random and not artificially engineered virus in a chinese laboratory and shipped out to the entire world has a whopping, deadly chance of .002% of killing them. so they're going to wear their slave masks like good little sheep and avoid touching others and stay 6 feet apart and you bet they'll be sure to call the thought police if anyone has the gall to act like a normal fucking person in these abnormal times. they're ready to wear these pieces of cotton over their faces for the rest of their lives, and they'll viciously attack anyone that DARES try to return to any kind of normalcy.
I think you are right.
You're currently in Florida right? I thought you guys kept the churches and most businesses open?
I'm in DC and we're still shaking hands... with the people we're familiar with.
Still folks not shaking hands though.
Why the fuck aren’t you shaking people’s hands?
They might get cooties.
They need to learn about hand washing.
It's what civilized people do.
No thanks, I'll stick to wiping with one hand and eating with the other, like a raccoon.
So, basically Pajeet.
blast from the past
And more effective than any Gates vaccine I’m sure.
I refuse to stop shaking hands. Most people will shake my hand when I extend it. If they don’t, we both know the shame they feel. And they feel it. They may not admit it but they feel it.
Dems want us to bump elbows. .... ... isn't that the same place the dems tell us to sneeze ?
Correcting grammar is American.
Correcting language is Leftist faggotry.
Go back to reddit , faggot
Make me tranny lover.
Okay
Username checks out
So's yours.
How'd you like those new Kamilla hard cock videos on Pornhub for Trannies?
Lol
Colby Covington said he felt strengthened with DRAGON ENERGY from President Trumps HANDSHAKE at the Las Vegas peaceful protest!!
I’m shaking peoples hands now. It’s already back ;)
the elbow bump isn't weird.
It's fucking retarded
Ive decieded the next time someone does that elbow bumb shit im going to shake their elbow
Never left. If a guy won't shake your hand you know he is a cuck ass little bitch who likes to choke on ball gags.
Why do you have to drag Barack into this?
"drag barack" are you referring to Michael?
Elbow bumps are so fucking gay. Why not rub dick heads. Be a man and shake a hand.
Be a man, shake a hand. Nice slogan.
Father of daughter here... if boy refuses to shake my hand firmly (and converse) he is summarily dismissed from the house. My daughter now understands why and appreciates this.

If there was a guy I really liked I would tell him to give dad a very firm handshake..)
I thought people with finger tip handshakes were absolute faggot pussies before I had a daughter.
Get your soft bitch ass hands in and give a proper firm shake you pussy
Only for real men... I still do it every day.
I'm in sales. In the DC area. If I ever have in person meetings again I will shake hands with whoever wants to shake hands.
It started as a way of showing you come in peace.... as you are shaking their hand, not holding a sword.
It started as two knights grabbing each other by their forearms to ensure that they weren’t hiding knives
It’s a pretty essential part of western civilization. Don’t let these fucks take it from you
If they offer the elbow I just grab it and shake.
Yeah, either November 4th or January 17th
I'm a HUGGER..... losing handshakes was difficult.
Not hugging people is KILLING me.
Hopefully after Election Day we'll get back to normalcy and kindness.
oh me too.
We still shake hands here. People with firm handshakes understand the importance of it.
Going to play Devil’s Advocate here because I come from a professional kitchen background. In some situations, like kitchen work or maybe medical, I can see how a fist bump or elbow dap is much more sanitary than a handshake.
That said, if I’m not in a work environment; I’m shaking hands.
It never left. Everyone not shaking hands is a pussy and you should treat them as such.
My dad too! He said my first bf had a weak handshake n he was no good for me! Turns out he was right!
Two things my dad told me that I shrugged off until I was older:
A man is only as good as his word.
You learn a lot about a man by the way he shakes your hand.
Both have proven to be true.
Spez: I’m from the south as well.
I went to a fundraiser for a Republican Senate candidate last week held at a rich supporter's home. 75-100 people were there. Everyone shook hands and I saw only one mask. MAGA!
The left wants to abolish hands shaking because they're all so lump wristed they have trouble holding onto their soy lattes
I continue to shake hands.
It never really left...I bought a car the other week and the initial greeting was the weird elbow bump.
Once I got the price settled, you can bet your ass there was a handshake.
It will be how you know who are the leftist f*ggots hereon out...those who still insist on the gay elbow bump being the aforementioned.
Your dad was right..for me, a woman, a handshake is a first impression for me. This includes a woman’s handshake as well.
The other big thing, do they look you in the eye? My dad had no respect for a man that would not look you in the eye when you shook his hand.
Never left (most of us) in the Deep South either
I still shake or attempt to. Anyone that tries a fist bump or whatever get an odd look and a no thanks.
John Wayne never fist bumped.
In construction in Cali, some do the bump but plenty of us do handshakes. It separates the men from the boys.
Yes, it will come back. I'll teach my kids how to give a good handshake.
You're a faggot for even asking the question
He said to the lady.
I never stopped shaking hands in the Seattle area, and still haven't gotten chivid
I despise the term the “new normal”. Screw that. Handshakes will never go away. No one is forcing you to shake hands but if your afraid wash your damn hands. It is long past time to start pushing back on some of the nonsense pushed by the unelected bureaucrats.
Yeah its the "new normal" for bitches.
Someone tries to elbow bump me, I'll tell them to go make me a samich.
Exactly. My dad said the same thing, and not only that, but it made me shake people's hands like it matters! No limp, insipid little flower petal handshakes for me, as people expect from women unfortunately.
I still do it here in nevada
Yes it never left. I'll never bump elbows
Elbow bumps are for fags
I refuse the elbow bump. Too gay. Shake my hand or gtfo
Some perspective for all you young people. When I was growing up in the NE in the 50’s handshakes were a thing between men. I am not a handshaker and never have been because of the germ issue and I dont like getting sick. You never know where a man’s hands have been IYKWIM and for Gawd’s sake never ever touch a gas pump handle with your bare hands. I am quite happy that wearing purple nitrile gloves are in vogue because now I am in fashion for once. But I don’t ever wear a mask because I prefer breathing the air of freedom. And I still miss my girdle.
LOL
