Then, Bork during the Reagan administration is when you started seeing character assassination and dirty politics for SCOTUS picks. Dems began showing what their intent for the court was. They wanted to leverage SCOTUS as a second legislature. Hence the pursuit of packing the courts, juris activists etc. Simple minded liberals are up in arms because they think this is just about Roe V Wade. This is about far more because the Bill of Rights is still in the way
